In this video I do a walk around of our BRAND NEW Four Wheel Campers Project M and share my initial review and thoughts of the topper. Plus I will explain my plans for a future build out. This camper comes with lots of options and I'll show the ones I selected and the reasons why. We are LOVING the Project M so far!

Nice! Thanks for uploading. I ordered mine two days ago out here in Utah: now the long 12 week wait. I have a 6.5 bed 2019 tundra but ordered what you have except with the second fan and the bed. I don’t plan on building internal storage, just keeping it simple with modular boxes etc. I feel your excitement and can’t want to have mine, too!

Very nice and I’m going look into getting one. I have an idea for the side storage that is super easy. Get a sheet of marine plywood and cut to fit around the wheel wells. Then add piano hinges the length of the plywood at the foot of the wheel wells from front to back. Then fashion one solid or a many doors as you want that will connect to the hinges, then once fit on the floor, you will flip the door up to the side shelves cut proper hight. Then add latches. Simple as anything, much easier than draws!

So great to see the rig tour. We love our BedRug. Comfortable on the feet and an R4 insulation value is a win win. Our first choice for our cooler is back seat with the seat delete. Second choice would be rear passenger side bed. Downside with central inside front is that now you have to open up everything crawl ALL the way to the front of truck. (Bring in more bugs, dirt and time into the mix) Since you both like to cook outside I'd go with in the bed, passenger side near the tailgate. It can now double as a seat. While a few hard cases are wonderful for step stools and seats, we're big fans of soft bags for weight reasons. After all it all adds up as you would know with the last camper. Congratulations on the Project M! Mark (& Teresa) Hampstead Maryland Ford Ranger - GFC Camper V2 #1919

Those are all great points….especially with bugs and dirt and stuff going in and out to get to a fridge. I think I want to leave the fridge in the cab. Soft bags are a good idea….do you have a particular brand you like?
@OutOfOfficeCamping
@OutOfOfficeCamping Жыл бұрын
@@prospectoverland No not really, too many affordable choices on Amazon. My wife has made a few bags for our travels. She also got me hooked on the Packing Cubes. That's my latest kick. Another GFC freind has also made a bunch of his own all color coded duffel bags. So he can quickly grab the right one based on his needs. He actually has it that each one has a specific spot in the truck based on the purpose. On the same topic I'd also suggest if you do any modular system build outs, I'm a fan of the Milwaukee packout boxs & mounting plates. Another affordable alternative over extreamly pricey overland options. The bennifit of the Zarges cases are there extreamly animal tolarent and water proof. So a great product for all it has to offers. Making it well worth the investment. Which I'm sure you've already figured that out since you mentioned it. I'm sure that was more information then you may have wanted. 🤣 I have a lot of options and favorites when it comes to systems. Happy Camping! The rubber tail gate seal kits on Amazon work pretty well. Yes it’s not 100% but it’s not bad at all. Just use my on board air compressor for a quick blast of air and the tail gate area is all clean before I set up camp.

@@prospectoverland The toe space came from what some boat's do, but in this case just to keep the floor clear for easy cleaning. This looks about as good as a truck box shell can get. Everything that most of us would find difficult to achieve is there already. No one size fits nobody stuff added in, beyond the escape window. From this, everyone can build exactly their vision, from a light weight full service camper to a full work truck that converts quickly.

I always thought it would cool if there was a way to install a modular system to the floor that could be easily installed and removed. Different modules for different uses. If you wanted a stove that would be a module. A sink another. Tall cabinet, extra seating, bed,cargo containers. My idea would they could easily removed with a interlocking system on the floor. Also maybe interlock together laterally for rigidity. Take out and add what you want. Kind of like a Lego interior. It just what I thought about years ago.

I had one of the slide in Four Wheel Campers and loved it, and I was thinking about doing another of their slide ins but as the “shell” model, but I like this even more. I’ve got a Decked system that I think would be nice with this kind of setup as everything is out of the way in the drawers, but you would be kind of bent over walking around inside as it’s about 1 1/2 feet tall. I’m wondering if you did a floor with tracks set in flush, then did modular boxes that could be taken out or inserted depending on the adventure. Kind of like the original versions of the Wayfarer Van conversion (not sure if that’s what they do now).

Does the space above when sleeping feel enough? I used to have an old Six Pack overhead camper and I felt cramped with the roof right in my face. I am older and might have trouble climbing up in that bed. Or maybe need to use the restroom at night trying to get down from the bed safely. For myself, I might make a removable single bed on the truck bed side that would serve as a couch and under the couch could be storage. Then use the top bed to store my camera gear, fishing gear, etc... by making something to keep it from flying down during acceleration. I am tired of keeping ice in an ice chest and want to see what you do for a small fridge and how you power it. I would want to keep it simple as possible and easy to remove in case I need to haul stuff, but then having most of the luxuries built in is appealing. Decisions decisions. Good luck. By the way, the wait for the pop up campers is so long, I looked at the Project M but there is a long wait for those to I believe.
@prospectoverland
@prospectoverland Жыл бұрын
There is about 31' from bed platform to roof. So you cant totally sit up right in bed and not hit your head on the roof. I dont feel cramped when sleeping though. You do have to step on the side shelfs of the camper to be able to get up into bed. So depending on your mobility that could be a little tricky. The lower bed area is super popular for people to build out and have the kids sleep down there but no reason you couldn't build it out for a adult size bed like you are referencing. I think I am leaving my dometic fridge in the back seat of my truck for now where I have always had it. i just finished solar power and wiring and am editing that video. keep an eye out. And yeah depending on where you live in the country if you have to used one of FWC retail locations the wait can get long. But if you can drive to one of the two FWC install locations in CA then the wait is less.

Hey thanks for watching. The GFC is light weight, small foot print for fitting on very tight offroad trails and it’s cheaper. By about $4k. Other than that, everything else is better on the FWC Project M. The project M is warmer, insulated, foam filled walls. Bigger foot print so more comfortable inside with lots of head room. Massive sleeping bed. Vertical walls interior and exterior allow easy mounting solutions. Tons of roof space for things like solar panels and other toys. Still very light for its size. 400lbs. We are currently running a seek 8 tipi hot tent, but something like this might work well. We use our airstream, towed by big truck as basecamp and the gladiator for short way off grid side trips. Super..& informative!! ...what's the Base price?...if i may ask...the price of your 'unit'..with the current 'options'?.. Are the Walls & Ceiling already 'insulated'??...seems quite durable! are you planning 'winter camping'? if so, what are your Options you'd consider for 'Heating'? cheers from Canada!
@prospectoverland
@prospectoverland Жыл бұрын
Thank you for checking it out. First off, the Four Wheel Camper site is super user friendly to plug in your truck model and it will show you base price then you can click on whatever options you want. The base price for my unit is $10,995 + options/ tax/install/ etc. $15,500 ish. Yes solid walls and ceiling are insulated. Soft section of pop top wall is single layer but I purchased the optional dual layer, “thermal pack”. We plan to do plenty of winter camping this year and likely will start with just an electric blanket and see how well the insulation does. Maybe upgrade to some sort of heater unit if the blanket doesn’t cut it. It’s a dream of ours to get up to the Banff area some day, not sure if that’s by you.

Thanks for making this video I know you had a gfc as did I (for my taco) I’m about to pull the trigger on this one most likely I have two questions with the gfc I had the je designs drip tray which diverted water from my door, I saw another guys video with a tundra and project m and he has that nasty calcium water drainage since to my knowledge there isn’t an aftermarket solution, how do you deal with that? Also he had the 6 foot bed I have the 5.5 but I noticed also on your it looks like it doesn’t sit directly on the front rail of the front of the bed. The guy said the gap was so bad he has horrible water intrusion (between the front of the bed and his project m, have you experienced anything like that at all? My gfc was for the most part water tight thanks a lot!
