Very grateful for the information about the 1GD engine. An interesting fact, in Costa Rica the 1GD is a pretty reliable engine, we don't have that kind of problems, although we don't tow that much, and they don't come with DPF or SCR (except 2023 Prado onwards, we'll see about this ones in some years). Haven't tested it in Prados, but in Hiluxes and Fortuners (at less the 150 KW variant) it has a decent power and very good response, even more than the 1KD (we got the 120 KW variant). Nonetheless, the reliability of the 1KDs with no EGR, and specially the 1KZs is superior because of its simplicity (this is a rule), except for the transmissions, that in high kms tend to overheat (but maybe its a mainteinance factor), so the people prefer them manuals. Due to the absence of the DPF and the weather conditions, the dealer suggests 5W30 and 10W30 oil, wonder if these type of oil contribbutes to the longevity of the engine, comparing it to the 0W20 recommended for engines with DPF.

Penrite has a great full synthetic oil for this engine. I have this engine in a hiace with 3900000 kms. No real problems as yet. But noisy in the timing chain but not enough to justify the expense in changing it out.

That’s right there is a number of problems with them I prefer to have something that’s more simple, more reliable cheaper to maintain A larger engine because it’s already small enough didn’t need to be smaller, but that’s the way things are going to meet emissions A bit less technology, a bit less pollution gear and the things are just awesome 1kd last of the best waiting for the petrol hybrid But with that much technology, people probably shouldn’t keep those too long so 1kd last of the best

His business is 1KD by choice since he has chosen last of the best! multiplied by three Yes, we own and use 3x1KD because we believe in them and have specialized in them for over 10 years. It sure is his business 🧑‍💼 Last of the best And we will continue to buy use learn and sell other vehicles and advise people whether they should make the move to them or not, and they can take. It will leave it.
