Shame on Volkswagen. The largest auto maker in the world allowing such crappy engineering. Way too many early part failures on VW/Audi TSI engines. Cheaply made crankshaft seals, broken plastic water pumps/ thermostat housing, faulty gear selectors, faulty PCV, valves leaky valve covers, leaky oil pans, bad intake manifolds, DSG transmissions only lasting a few thousand miles, etc etc . Maybe plastic engine parts weren't such a good idea after all. Meantime VW scratching it's head wondering why the world is buying more riceburners.

To people wondering what VW charges for this, they quoted me 9 hours @ $150 per hour to replace rear main seal. Mine started leaking around 130k miles. Turbo and timing chain was completely replaced at around 90k 2011 Tiguan 2.0tsi 4motion
@batchimed73923 жыл бұрын
On some videos they instruct to carefully squeze the seal inner lip towards engine side. But you are slapping in the RMS without much care so that the inner lip is facing to the transmission side. Others say that it will cause leak again.
@FourRingsAuto3 жыл бұрын
2 different style seals used on ea888s. Not "slapping it on without much care". Been working on Audi's for 14 years, and many times round the block with the ea888.

Come to find out it seems like everything leaks on these cars mine has a rear main seal leak, 2 timing chain covers a black box the shop cant identify and the oil pan is leaking i paid 4k for the car and now it looks like ill have to dish out another 4k to fix all these leaks. I knew better than to buy a vw but im hoping after its all fixed it will last awhile longer but ill never buy another vw foreign cars are the worst but i thought i had a decent deal boy was i wrong!

What kind of socket is used on the drive plate bolts (at 12:21)? I may have to find those special sockets.
@FourRingsAuto3 жыл бұрын
Just a 12 point socket. Nothing special. I think they're a 16mm head (can't remember) but they're a regular 12 sided socket.

stuck trying to pull the transfer case... everything is unbolted and can get it to spin(pivot) and slightly comes out but something is hanging up. I assume it has a similar c clip on the splines that the half shafts have. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey i did the same sear repair on my Tiguan and I filled up the trans fluid my car is not going into gear what will I do? But I was trying to install my torque converter bolt and the crank was hard to crank but after couple of crank it came loose. Do you think I’m not getting any power into my transmission pump
@FourRingsAuto2 жыл бұрын
You may uave broken the dog engagement teeth off of the auto gearbox oil pump. The torque converter probably came out a bit when you removed the transmission. You should always remove an auto trans with the torque converter held into the trans. If it comes out a bit and you don't get it seated correctly, when you install the transmission it'll bind up on the pump drive and lock the engine up from rotating. If the pump in the trans doesn't make pressure there will be no gears. Hopefully this isn't the case, but I've seen someone do this before...
@mehsahdayi Жыл бұрын
@@FourRingsAuto the same is happening with me, I would like to know what happened exactly before removing the trans again.

I am doing this exact repair process on the exact same engine,however, the bevel box will not come out. I have all bolts removed and the axles and rear driveshaft are free. The unit will spin and move away from the transmission a slight bit only. I have tried prying with a bar,to no avail. Do you happen to have any removal tips for the bevel box? Thanks
@jacquesschoeman57192 жыл бұрын
Hi, I have the exct same problem, please share what else could hold the case from coming out?
@Frankieflips2 жыл бұрын
@@jacquesschoeman5719 I used 2 steel wedges, top and bottom, to coax it out. Also, be aware that some transfer cases have a small bolt going through the center of the right-hand shaft and into the transmission. That small bolt will keep the transfer case from popping off. My Tiguan does not have that small bolt, however.
@Frankieflips2 жыл бұрын
@@jacquesschoeman5719 In addition, VAG removal states to attach and use a slide hammer on the transfer case, in order to aid in the removal process. I tried that, to no avail. The end of my transfer case shaft and circular clip were rusted solid to the transmission.
@traderz47884 жыл бұрын
