This is possibly the most thorough and helpful car maintenance clip I have ever watched. The detail on the clips working was so good that I got all the bits off with confidence in no time. For The pulling tool was I found an old metal curtain pole arm that fitted perfectly…a bit of wiggling and out they popped. The only improve could be that when you insert the new spark plug first rotate it anti-clockwise and when you feel it drop you can then turn clockwise and tightened with confidence of no cross threading..thanks again

Thanks, just did this on my wifes Jetta. Could not believe how hard it was to lift the coils up! I used the cable tie method, but broke a couple before they budged. I had to use a length of 3/4 pipe as a lever and placed blocks of wood as a fulcrum.

Well this will be useful when I change my coils in a couple days. Neighbour's a mechanic, but it seems to just get put off more and more, so decided to just do it myself.

Wow what a ridiculous design, such little access to the coils. Mine were really difficult to get out, took me a good hour messing around with various methods. Ended up using cable ties and then leveraging with a screwdriver. Peice of pipe also broke right at the rubber grommet, just completely hard brittle plastic. Luckily had the right sized hose lying around to cut a replacement peice. Thanks for the video.

For those that dropped the grommet 8:10 this is the part number that you need: V03C103638B Where I am, you can only get this from the dealer - no aftermarket shops have this part. Cost around 11 EUR per piece. Good luck everyone and have fun!!

If the scan tool shows that the problem is cylinder number 1 is it okay to switch coil covers to see if the misfire is in a different cylinder? Or do the coil covers have to be specific to each cylinder?

It was just a radiator pick. Yoy could try google radiator pick, or cotter pin puller. There is also a special tool for the job that can be bought from ebay or Amazon. Or loop a cable tie under coil pack and use that to pull them out.

@FourRingsAuto
@FourRingsAuto 5 жыл бұрын
They are generally only replaced when there is an issue such as a misfire. However it wouldn't be a bad thing to replace them and keep the originals as spares. Only use genuine or equivalent parts such as bosch. No ebay parts should be fitted!
@billeadie7387

well if you follow this guys example and leave a hole straight into the cylinder coz he has removed the spark plug whilst still taking other parts off then you may have no engine if something drops into the cylinder!!

the grommet how does it look? is it a O ring type thing? because i don't know if i lost it or not i have the pipe and a pipe fitting on there. and if it's just to keep it tight wouldn't one of those steel ring tighters do the job?
@FourRingsAuto
@FourRingsAuto 4 жыл бұрын
It's a rubber piece that goes inside the end of the tube. Sometimes it is still of the pipe on the inlet that you pull it off of. If you don't have it it won't seal. You can't use a hose clamp on it!

I broke it too. Did you notice a strange cricket sound once a while? And engine hesitation only when the sound comes on? From my understanding, it vents the crankcase oil or pressure into the intake. Can I use those red Audi R8 coil packs on this engine or just 2.0 engines?
@FourRingsAuto
@FourRingsAuto 4 жыл бұрын
You can, but you have to swap the pins around in tye witing plugs as they are in a different order. Also the r8 and 2.0t coils are a lot taller than 1.4t so your engine cover either can't be refitted, or you put spacers on the mounts for it. You should also use the r8/2.0t coil mounting kit made for the 1.4t bg various manufacturers, as it bolts to the head of the 1.4 and makes the r8/2.0t coils fit as if they were in a there native heads. Rtmg sell them i believe.
