Sadly, Laserdisc isn't forever, as many owners have found out. Unlike CDs, DVDs, Blurays, etc. The way Laserdiscs were manufactured has resulted in some rotting of the discs themselves. So there is a deadline to preserve those, and plenty have gone past that point already.

"You peaked" was just such a perfect joke to me. I certainly have no problem with Gohan having a quiet life that makes him happy, but there was SOOO much buildup throughout the series that he had the most untapped potential and would leave everyone in the dust, it was extraordinarily frustrating

It's oddly realistic though. Like someone who is a really talented painter or pianist but they work for a living and only exercise their talent as a hobby. But yeah, Toriyama just kind of dropped that idea of having Goku and Vegeta making way for a new generation. He even gave it a bit of an arc, where Goku tries to hand off the hat to Goten and Trunks (even avoiding killing Buu himself, which by his own admission he could have done) before ultimately deciding to do it himself and let his kids live their own lives. Vegeta even lampshades it in the epilogue about their children being weak.

Even the "buildup" was pretty flimsy, let's be honest here. The writing in Dragon Ball is terrible. DB fans could've written a much better arc by now (which isn't difficult because Toriyama's writing is terrible lol).

People have done great work reimagining it and sometimes improving upon it. I know, Toriyama tried really hard and did really good, but that doesn't mean it's immune to being criticized for its weak points, of which it has many.

2/10 year overall for me, gone through cancer surgery, skin disease ill likely never get rid of, bunch of crushed dreams and the prospect of a diceroll for my future. I mey taka once at a con and he was one of if not the nicest dude i have ever met. I told him about how their content helped me through a really rough time in my life and he just brought me up on stage and gave me one of the biggest bear hugs of my life. I cannot overstate the comfort and joy which the original abridged show provided to me as a child. A decade or so later and I find myself met with the same joy and now, nostalgia even, as we’ve been given the privilege to watch it all over again with you guys. I don't mind Gohan peeking and becoming a side character. I mind Gohan trying to live a normal life and constantly being pulled back in to fight and try to relive the old days. He killed Cell and saved the world, then he got to go to school, get a career, and have a family! He quite literally lived the super hero dream, we should just be happy for him and let him live his life.

I saw an interesting assessment of the Buu saga that essentially posited that the real issue with it, and by proxy how Gohan acted moving forwards, was that it was supposed to return to Dragon Ball's roots as a gag manga, but no one was on board for that, so Toriyama felt forced to go back to action, Gohan's action arc was done, so he had Goku return and essentially used Gohan as a way of flipping everyone who forced him to go back to action the bird.

I'm guessing you guys won't see this in the tsunami of comments crashing againsts the shores of your attention, but I want to say thank you. Not only for DBZA, which has been a consistent bright spot in my life since a friend in high school dragged me over to watch this "hilarious video" he found while we were supposed to be studying, but for this commentary as well. Being able to go through this show that has meant so much to me over the years as a source of levity and joy when I've desperately needed it with the people who made it has been truly wonderful. Insight into the mind of an artist who has made something that they love and that you love carries a special kind of beauty that I struggle to define. I am honored. I am grateful. I still believe TFS helped in reviving western interest again in Dragon Ball. Maybe not directly but still, at a time when DBZ was at a creative lull and with people losing interest, these guys came in and both introduced and reintroduced everyone to such a wonderful franchise full of character, heart and visually stunning fights and visuals. Thank you Team Four Star for everything you've done and showing me that there is more to Dragon Ball than just the fight scenes.

I was there (Gandolf). Dragon Ball was D. E. D. DED. The closest we got to something new was the animation in the video games. We only learned about "Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!" like years later. The internet was barely a thing back then and if you wanted to see something, good luck even finding out IF it was uploaded anywhere. And that's if you learn about it at all. 100% in my eyes, DBZA showed how popular the franchise still was which revived it.

In terms of finding comfort in this show, it's funny to me because these commentaries were actually a tremendous source of comfort right around the middle of namek saga that I really needed. Knowing that more of these were coming gave me that reason to keep going since I had something to look forward to. Getting to peak behind the curtain was just really fun for me. 2010, I was 15 years old and on another weekday adventure with my friends, walking down some train tracks in my hometown. My best friend tells me he's seen this parody show of DBZ on KZbin where Vegeta's scream breaks the timeline. I watched it that night and I've been a fan ever since. When Lani said "You guys made my adulthood," I felt that. I'm 28 now. I'm with my wife and daughter, spending my first Christmas in our first house. Your videos have been with me through high school, college, relationships, breakups, my first job, my wedding. Every good and bad moment of my life, you guys helped me through it all. That and "The Unexpectables" which is a D&D game run by Taka's sister and had him in it for most of the first campaign.
