Hi Kaki - how exciting! You really are a traveller! I'm a flight attendant and, of course, I love to travel, too. However, I know my weight has made my job so much harder, and travel with my husband and kids isn't as enjoyable as it was. I have chronic back pain and stiff joints, so I'm hoping the weight loss will make it better. As for fear of failure....I would keep my head down and listen only to your bariatric team - as you have been. If at some time you feel something isn't working for you, or you are having a huge stall, then maybe try to switch it up with some other advice you've heard (says the chick who has NOT had her surgery yet - HA!) But, my gosh, you are doing so well right now, and you look wonderful!! I only hope my recovery will be like yours. And, again thank you for all your insight, information and videos.

Thank you!! You are right about being selective on who I listen to, especially when things are going well :-) Do you have a date for surgery yet?

@@kakisrnyjourney5376 I don't yet. I still have another month of clearances to go. My NP said she thinks it might be around the end of April or in May.

Kaki! I resonated with this so much. Funny enough, I went to a nutritionist at the base my husband is stationed at, which is different that my surgeons (which is also different from where I physically had surgery, funny enough), and she 100% disagreed with EVERYTHING my surgeon had outlined for me. That how dare I ever think of eating over 3oz at maximum, I was never allowed to go over 500 calories a day, and that I was having too much protein. She warned that if I ever drank alcohol again I would end up ruining my liver and dying. I left the appointment more confused than when I went in and feeling like a failure. I'm -45lbs less than a month after surgery, so I'm assuming I'm doing something right! Ugh. The lack of clear directions is just so confusing. I feel ya, girlfriend! You're not alone. P.S. We're stationed in northern Italy if you want to travel over here in the next two years! I would love to meet you!

Hi Kaki i love watching your journey. Im I the UK I’m 5 weeks post op Gastric Bypass. I follow John Pilcher he is USA bariatric surgeon he talks a lot of sense :) according to him at 3 months post surgery you will have lost half what you can expect to lose in a year. He recommends eating a low carb diet which is what I’ve done pre op and waiting to get to week 6 so he can get back to my salads :) i’m eating carbs atm my programs advice as I need for energy but I’m thinking of stopping them as they don’t agree with me and even though I’m eating very little I have gained 4lbs!

Hi there! I love Dr. Pilcher- he is very matter of fact and easy to understand! The only carbs I get regularly are from non-starchy veggies and the occasional low carb tortilla or Quest chips. My dietitian wants me to start eating low glycemic fruit and things like sweet potatoes. I have never been much of a fruit eater but going to try!

@@kakisrnyjourney5376 I know we have to listen to our dieticians and doctors but fruit is just sugar surely? I’m not mad on fruit but strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries are low sugar so those are the ones I used to eat, of course skins and pips will now be an issue so I’m going to cook then with a little water and then strain them. I also think your body tends to ask you for what it need ( once you’re eating healthy) at the end of the day we can only try to do what works for us x

Congrats on your progress this week! How exciting to have a great trip to look forward to! You’re right so many variations between programs. My program guidelines have a 🚫alcohol 1st year (and even then very limited is recommended). Miss having a glass of wine or social cocktail but not pressed about it. I focus on 60-80g protein limit to 1 protein shake a day. I usually have 1/2 in morning coffee to be sure to get to protein goal. Don’t really count calories but like you I do look at it. I love it when my activity calories are higher than consumed calories. 😂 Right now no fear about not doing “right “. I track daily have my activity routine and continue to learn. Practicing not comparing my progress to others. Thanks for being transparent. Helps me to recognize what may creep up in my thoughts. Have a great week!

Holy crap! FIVE plus pounds!! Good for you, honey! I havent had my surgery yet (its set for 4/7) but I already have the fear of failure thing going on in my head. lol Im an over analizer and researcher. So I found the inconsistencies right away. So, of course, I have already butted heads a little bit with the providers at my bariatric clinic by asking the questions about the inconsistency between programs, like why is their program and rules better than the rest? And why isnt there an industry standard of treatment like there is for every other medical surgery or procedure? It is driving me crazy! And I wont lie, it makes me trust them less and makes me wonder if it isnt just a money making thing, to do it "their" way. I mean they all have it down to such a science of each insurance companys' requirements, what things need to be met for approval, even down to the form letters of insurance approval sent to the different insurance providers. Its a fill in the blank form for each provider. They were none too pleased with me pushing about those things, either. But I have to tell you that they were completely unable to answer those questions. I asked about the inconsistencies between programs. It was evident that they follow the procedures, policies that are set and do it the way that the clinic has told them to do it and that was that.

Clear cut guidelines!! Yes, can you say that again. I’m 9 weeks post op and feel like I may have hit a stall and it’s likely due to the fact that I have no clue how I should be eating. Should I count macros or not should I limit myself on keto/zero carb breads and tortillas? Should I completely cut out protein drinks? I did my preop nutrition meetings with a nutritionist outside of my bariatric team, because the in-house nutritionist did not accept my insurance but now I’m dealing with the in-house nutritionist and they are not on the same page. I’m so confused. I feel much healthier and have lost 50lbs but need clear guidelines. I’m pretty sure I’ve hit a little more than 800 calories or so just trying to get my protein in and I do worry if the fact that I can eat a little more on some days but less on other days means I’m impeding my progress or stretching my pouch. I do plug my numbers into my fitness pal occasionally just to see my numbers but I’ve been told not to track. Hopefully we’ll find some encouragement in the comments. Thanks Kaki, your video arrived right when I needed it😊

Thank you and you are so welcome! You are doing great!! Wow! Isn't it so bizarre how the recommendations are so varied. My program wants me to track daily with an app so I know what I am getting in but who knows if it is the right thing? At least according to my nutritionist I am but still so nervous!!
