From 2017 on, all 911s except the GT3/GT3RS were turbo-charged. The new 3 liter turbo was not what I wanted and I was sorry I missed out on a 911 GTS (991.1) when they were available. Any used GT3 was grossly overpriced (substantially above MSRP) and I simply told my dealer "would you buy stocks at their peak"? I wouldn't. So in 2018, I lucked into a used but very nicely equipped 2015 Carrera GTS in a 7-speed manual (I would not consider a PDK) with a mere 157 kms (98 miles) at my Porsche dealer. A better choice than a GT3 as a street car.

Nice analysis - it would be good to title your analysis as only for the 991's - which is just a portion of the total GT3 market. The 991.1 GT3 is an isolated model which I predict will start to drop more as the special factory engine warranty (due to the problems with the engine rod bolts) starts to expire, never mind they were all PDK's with is a negative. The 997 and even the 996 markets are similar in that all the GT cars are very sensitive to mileage, and the RS variants even more so. It would be interesting to see what the depreciation curve does when the mileage gets really high on the GT cars, say 50, 60 or 70K miles. I bet the depreciation accelerates quite rapidly, especially as compared to a vanilla Carrera S.
@erich9643 жыл бұрын
My how things have changed in this market. My 997.2 GT3 that has 10,000 miles on it is worth almost $160,000. I’ve had multiple offers for 150 K. They keep appreciating and as 992 becomes much more expensive but older GT variance keep going up

I appreciate data driven analysis. Very good job. Related to the GT3 models, is there a difference in the touring vs non-touring cars? My anecdotal view from looking at used GT3s is that there is a premium for touring cars. You might have captured this with the delta between 4.0 automatics vs manuals though since the touring cars are manual only. Regardless, subscribed.
@fourwheeltrader4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! Good point, someone else remarked this as well. I excluded the touring models but some (i believe 4/5) cars which were listed as normal gt3's turned out to be touring models. This indeed explains the large difference between the manual and automatics.

@EpigeneticAlteration4 жыл бұрын
Maybe I missed it, but it doesn't seem you account for original MSRP, which is an enormous factor in resale prices. A base .2 GT3 is only $143k and are routinely specified with options all the way up to $190k and well beyond into the $200k range for PTS and custom options.
@fourwheeltrader4 жыл бұрын
All the prices you see are advertised prices.
@EpigeneticAlteration4 жыл бұрын
@@fourwheeltrader I do understand that, but the analysis gets skewed when we don't consider asking price in conjunction with MSRP and options. A $150k asking price is either an amazing deal on a 991.2 GT3 with a MSRP of $200k or a rip off on a base model with $143k msrp.

The 991.1 and the 991.2 are not comparable. The one had the engine (problem) which who knows if it was ever really fixed. Extended warranty but that will eventually run out. Also PDK only, compared to the 991.2 which has completely different engine, and the stick shift.

Do you see the GT3 (991.1) eventually go up in value because of it's relative rarity and naturally aspirated engin?
@rudik54964 жыл бұрын
As usual a great video. 2 points: a/ for the 991.2 the price difference between manual and pdk is due to the GT3 Touring which are manual only and are the outliers in your sample (all the very high prices of gen 2 manuals). The Touring is “supposed” to be rarer, but looking at your graph interesting to see that it’s not that rare... b/ the 991.1 have a serious engine default, Porsche gave a 10 year warranty and change the engine as soon as there’s a problem no question asked. Saying that for the 2014 cars, you’re now getting quite close to that 10y warranty and nobody really wants to be the guy with 991.1 in 2023. I would say that Porsche just hasn’t Really fixed the 3.8 gt3 engine, the latest batch of gen G engine is supposed to be fine but it still feels a bit like a lottery (still people reporting engine failure at 5-10k miles with gen G). And as not everybody tracks or drive their cars a lot, many might have had an engine change to an E or F gen a few years back.
@fourwheeltrader4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rudi, thanks for your detailed answer. The GT3 Touring shouldn't be included in the data because i removed them. Nevertheless, after your comment i checked some points and i found that there were indeed 5 Tourings included. They were, however, not labelled as Tourings in the original data and therefore remained in the data set in used for the analysis. This indeed explains the price difference between the automatic and the manual cars. Thanks also for pointing out the engine problems. I was not aware that the problems were so severe.
