The education system is broken! Teachers routinely pat themselves on the back for the job they are doing, but the students are not receiving a tenth of the education I received. My granddaughter goes to one of the preferred schools in Charleston , South Carolina and she is so far behind where a fifth grader should be, it just breaks my heart.

I'm 70 now, but since I was in my early 20's I always dreamt of buying a very large parcel of land, build a bunch of small homes for women and children in abusive situations to have a safe place to live. It would be in an undisclosed area, with a school and lots of rescued animals for the kids to learn about and play with. It would be kind of like a commune where everyone helps out with cooking, cleaning, etc. but the main idea is to keep them safe from their abusers. I want to give them what as someone who grew up in an abusive household never got

What America needs is a better education system. For all the tax dollars that are thrown at schools, the majority of those dollars are spent on sports and not education. Time to turn around the education system. Teachers should not have to spend their own dollars to provide needed supplies for their classrooms. Time to re-evaluate our schools.

I taught for 25 years in a large Midwestern high school. The system works if the culture around a school is not progressive. The NEA and other large unions should not be able to effect the culture in a school. Teachers should be fired if they are political and push the progressive agenda in a class. If a school's culture is progressive or has a gang culture; learning will be hindered and the school will fail. A school that has a culture that includes: student's with parents that take part in the education of their child, learning in school is a top priority, a safe environment with a fair discipline system, and teacher's that are mandated to teach only the objectives in the subject matter ( no progressive ideology or politics). Politics should be limited to political science classes.

We should find a way for multiple to receive the money, perhaps a school be chosen along with an individual to win the money. Maybe to a all homes on a particular street within a community instead of a single person. Winners who are uneducated in finance often blow most of the money. I always thought this is ridiculous to have that much money go to one person. So wasteful and sometimes harmful. How can we do better?

We've had a big problem with our schools for several decades. The democratic ran teachers union has made to where lazy teachers do not have to produce students with possibilities, whichbis all students. Students are like a plant. If you ignore it and dont water it (expand their minds), theyll wilt, and not reach their potential. And electives such as shop ans mechanics to to brought back in. We get inexperienced, lazy kids into the work force straight out of school. So much is pushed on book intellect and it bypasses the ones who, unfortunately, dont contain that strong of intellect. Those kids need something to move into that fits their passion and/or abilities. Without mechanics and carpenters, we'd be in big trouble.

Imsgine having your Masters Degree in Special Education anf you have to change diapers. Hard to believe but it happens. Who ever allowed that needs a real Diaper Change Many young Mothers sit on thier butts collect checks put thier very young not toilet trained on the school bus and are free to get thier nails done,hair done ect. God forbid to call this out!! Then they come only to complain that thier childs Diaper was wet when they pick them up end of School day. Those reading this believe it happens. The resposibilty is not the Teachers to potty train your children. Secondly why would any parent allow anyone to change thier childs Diaper? Because its one more thing they don't have to do. Maybe we should open schools and Educate these babies having babies on what it takes to potty train your own children. You brought into the world and its Your Responsibility to maintain your children. Not Teachers!

I was a child of the 80's when it was cool to be Judd Nelson's character's or Ferris Bueller or any slacker the movies put out.
