I live a mile away but sadly I beleave it’s now a predator ticket that’s only a few months off the year and it’s a eye watering 700 quid !! Yah that’s right but that how fishing is going nowadays silly prices

For what he is fishing with and for you might want to go lighter than that. UK perch no big and a light casting rod is plenty of power or you will not get a good fight out of the fish. But Texas style fishing is great for larger Perch for sure.

@@JP-ic2ze he is fishing a spot where the depth is around 14-15ft, other areas of that reservoir can reach into the mid 20s so the setup he is using is perfectly matched for that water as I also fish there. For example a 5-15g rod you would struggle in that depth using a 14g weight especially when the wind picks up as you wouldn't get as good of a bite indication that you would on a heavier setup. For shallow water a lighter setup would be more suited but for deep reservoirs you want a heavier weight so more power would be required to stay in direct contact with your lure.

@@imadsho thanks for that. I didn't know about the depth. In fact in just over a couple of weeks I'm off fishing for Perch (and hopefully my first xander) in Northern Spain. The water can reach as much as 30 ft from what I've been told. I will be using a heavier rod and weight for that also. Sadly will be using the rental rod as I can't afford to take mine with me. But fingers crossed will catch something decent.
