Fox Shooting with the .204 Ruger to protect Chickens 220yards

Fox Shooting with my Custom Remington 700 in .204 Ruger. Its a 1 in 10 Twist shooting 39grn Sierra Blitzkings. The Scope is a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 and the stock is a Accuracy International Chassis System with Victor Company viper skins.
The Cub was shot to protect farm stock.

Its remarkable how these bullets travel through air leaving a visible path. The 204 is incredible

Nice rifle setup and as far as the comments on the Night Force NSX goes I own 2 of them on long range rifles and have never found a fault with them!

Im hearing mixed reviews about nightforce scopes,hearing there built like a tank but bad at low light,grand for dialling in but weigh a tonne:)ha sure theres pros/cons to everything in life!

James White Yes mate, they have perfect tracking for dialing shots. Although with the current price of them it might be worth looking at the Sightron S3 Tactical

7485D Thats a Accuracy International Chassis System with Victor company viper skins. Ive got a GRS stock on my .308 thats quite nice, or have a look at the Whiskey 3 Chassis for the Tikka

that barrel does not look 26", you including the surpressor then?

Cheers. Its made by a company called Jager sporting arms. The one i use on my .308 is made by a company called Third Eye Tactical in the UK. Its a better design, smaller & lighter.

Very cool. What does it take to purchase a suppressor in your country? Are there any special licenses or permits required? I'd like to know the details and specs on your rifle. Was it a custom build or purchased off the shelf?

You need to apply for a moderator for every calibre you wish to acquire. If you can present a good reason for wanting that calibre there is no reason it cant be granted. Its a custom built Remington 700 in a AICS with Victor Company Skins, 26" 1 in 10 twist Border barrel with a Nightforce NXS. Shoots Sweet!

the .20 cals are great fun & very accurate. If you like to shoot the 39 or 40grn Heads you better get a 1 in 10 some of the 12 twist dont like the heavier rounds

Hi I'm thinking of buying a new Tikka rifle and was thinking .223 but after seeing this I'm not sure. At present I've a cz 22lr which is no use over 100 yards. I will be shooting foxes hopefully up to 300/400 yards but mostly 100 - 200 yards. What's the best calibre.

Jenseyboo Id go for the .223 if its your first centrefire rifle. The factory bullet availability is good, id imagine the 55grn Hornady V Max would be a good choice, maybe the 40grn. The .204 is great, but i wouldnt describe it as a starter unless you are planning to reload. Make sure you save all the brass as you never know when you will want to start loading!

varminteruk Thanks for the reply. Im actually planning on reloading with a Dillon 550B that will be used to make pistol rounds too. Not sure if this is the best press for the job or not. Ive just bought a .223 Browning Xbolt Varmint and am looking at some nightforce scopes. I wasnt sure whether the difference in the SHV and NXS was justifiable but you will know better. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

+Jenseyboo .204 is excellent for ranges of 100-200yds as it shoots so flat. They can be picky with factory loads this is the reason so many shooters of .204's load their own rounds. You do get a reduced barrel life with a .204 as well, look to expect drop off after less than 2000 rounds

300 blackout would be a horrible fox round imo. Best to go with 17 rem, 204 ruger, or one of the .224s
