Very high marks for this one mate. Both for the knife and the review. Excellent knife. It was very refreshing to see a good review of a well used knife. And stunningly fresh to ser someone talk highly of a knife that's Not a "bushcraft knife". A ROCK could be a proper bushcraft knife but people here in the states get all up in arms if it's not a knife made by their favorite manufactured who had to Tell them it's the Best most Xtreme Top Bushcrafty knife made that can also take on an elephant. My dad did the best bushcraft stuff with his bayonet from Vietnam that he still had when living in the Virgin Islands for 30years. Now that's jungle survival on an island. PERFECT FOR THAY FOX KNIFE. LOVE IT. LOVE IT A LOT. Thanks for sharing and the excellent review Keep it up. Peace from Ohio USA.

Hey man, thanks so much for your comments and glad you liked this video! You are so right about what you say there. People are getting brainwashed as to what bushcraft means etc.Yep and like you say if you know what you are doing a bayonet can be just right. Certainly when I was in the jungles of Indonesia I never saw anyone carrying a "bushcraft knife" they were all using parangs and they could do anything with them because they knew what they were doing. We were using them too. Try cutting open coconuts on a regular basis for water with a "bushcraft" knife.

This model too as u probably know is also without a saw back, maybe better? It is a bad ass blade and I wish Fox could make it with a different handle. i think I will talk to them about this soon I hope.

You know what I use this one all the time in the field even if I'm testing other knives LOL Your suggestion is great and I will certainly consider doing this kind of video, as if I had to combine all the things I've done with this knife-unfortunately not always with a camera- then I'd almost have that movie! +Joshuah “Wildman” Moran Hi there, yes it is a knife you can beat up the biggest downside is a very uncomfortable handle/grip. But this like this so the knife can be retro fitted to a bayonet. At least at the time I bought this knife it could be. I think the blade design is very good though and if one prefers it can be had without the spine saw.

Right tool for the job and respecting the tool you do have is important, everyone says the original kabar is junk because it has a stick tang so it can't possibly be a durable blade well the kabar was made from a modified hunting knife and out of necessity during a time when people appreciated what they had and used it like they cared if it was going to last and those knives are likely still in use today! There are many Vietnam soldiers who would swear by their kabar and say if it wasn't for having that knife they'd have died but some punk kid tries to smack it with a hammer or a club and bends it and immediately calls it junk lol what a shame...
@BushCampingTools

Right, yes I know this knife. I wasn't too keen on all those upper serrations though perfect for undercutting very large suspended ropes, it will not or should not jam onto the knife unlike cutting downwards with a serrated blade. Thanks for watching!

@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, when I bought mine, it was. I bought it from the internet from a company in Italy. But this was years ago. Strictly speaking, it's a military issue knife (pretty obvious I guess) , so not sure if it is still for sale to the public. It has to be one of my most used knives. Bear in mind though the handle is very blocky and hence my addition of a rubber inner tube. The handle profile is meant to resist twisting of the knife. It's as tough as you can get, if you saw my first video of me chopping a huge branch in the snow LOL (that was at 5am! LOL). It's a no nonsense versatile knife that can be proud of the fact it's designed for military use. More than adequate for civilian use. Plus the scabbard is indestructible LOL! The company I got mine from was called SIFF, just google them. Failing that get back to me if u have trouble with it and I can ask some guys in FKMD where u can get one from in your neck of the woods.

Which knife do you prefer as an all round survival outdoors knife, the Fox FKMD Spartan Leonida or the Fox Knives Trapper? I'm leaning towards the Trapper because of the Micarta handle and the different blade surfaces, but this Spartan Leonida is one hell of a knife for sure, I think either would give my Cold Steel SRK Carbon-V a run for its money.
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 10 жыл бұрын
desertcommandomaster Both knives are nice. The Combat survival model, despite a not so comfortable handle (but very grippy-even without my modification) is a great blade design. I have beaten the daylights out of it, cut through scrub and jungle material in Australia with it, batoned the living daylights out of it across European forests and cut loads of plastic and cable and barbed wire and ordinary fencing wire with it. It is a tough knife because it is a "real" military knife and hence meant to be able to support the soldier through thick and thin. It's been EDC for almost 3 months, two years back with me, it's tough. The FX132 is a civilian knife of course that requires some prowess with sharpening ability as it has differing blade geometries, both being in N690, a steel despite it's more practical usage in the tool steel industry makes for a good stainless knife steel that holds an edge. The FX132 is a good knife but never really seemed to take off, I believe due to it's irregular (but by no means unique) shape. It is a beefy knife for it's size. I'd have to go with the Combat survival as the serrations (and saw, that actually works) are very practical in a coastal survival situation and if you have to "survive" ie eat and drink, then head for the seaside if possible where you will find water and food, ropes and a lot of flotsam and jetsam can really aid your camp (been there done that. I wouldn't complain too much if the SHTF and I happen to have either knife with me. Personally I'd FOX to redesign the handle of the Combat Survival to appeal to the outdoor person. Hey Massimo, are you listening/reading guys???

Hi there, I hope this thread is not dead and buried, this was a great review and I just bought this knife and am awaiting to be shipped.I have some questions I was wondering if you could help me with. This knife is advertised as a bayonet as well as a survival knife and this is the capacity that I will be using it in. I do a lot of conservation hunting on pigs and other introduced species and I was wondering what its piercing or stabbing capacity is like to finish off game? Also how does it hold its edge, and what did you use to sharpen the knife with (did you use the diamond pad on the sheath). How is the knife going now, I see this thread is a year old.
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 9 жыл бұрын
+Charlie Roddenby Hi sorry for the very late reply. Ok so I hope you have the knife and are satisfied by it. Firstly, I've never stabbed game with it but I see no reason given it's piercing power to do so if hunting. When it was new it held an edge for an incredibly long time and believe me I was really working it very hard too. The diamond plate I use only when I have to sharpen it a long way from home. Fox/FKMD don't say what the grit size is/microns etc but I'd say it's about a "medium grade" It has been designed for the soldier and must get maybe a damaged blade sharp fast. Also keep it sharp with ceramic rods or I just bought a ceramic super fine stone from FALLKNIVEN, the CC4 model and it's great. Ok so yes the same blade is intended for a bayonet, as the blade fixing hardware can be exchanged into the bayonet handle. I've never done this as I have no use of the bayonet handle and I think some places will not sell the bayonet version unless one can prove they are enlisted. regards BCT

I love this knife but I just don't know about that handle. is it really that bad? or just when doing hard chopping? I know the fox oplita has more of a standard combat type handle. Thanks for any advice! really enjoy your reviews.
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 9 жыл бұрын
I love the knife too and he blade design really sold it for me and that's why i bought it but it is uncomfortable without gloves on and definitely very uncomfortable if you have to chop with it. Mind you that was a big wide cottonwood you see me chop and the second one that morning ( the other one was the same size). The lower handle profile is ok but the upper surface is just plain square and no ones hands, civilian, military or other are shaped to accommodate this profile. This I believe is partly due to FOX being able to use the same molding and effects a simple change to the bayonet model and of course a narrow handle profile. If you really like it and I've beaten the hell out of mine then my best advice is to hold one in your hands and if you still like it then go ahead and get one, but try and at least hold one and check the comfort level. Thanks for watching and glad you like my reviews. BCT

I've used a lot of knives, and that one is the most useless design I've ever seen. Even the A2 stainless is a horrible choice. I don't know, maybe if you think there's a really good chance of getting in a knife fight, this may be fine. But even here, there are at least a dozen far, far better knives on the market. This knife is pure gimmick, front to back. Even the tang is crap. But maybe you all have different standards, and even different needs. My experience, though, is that this is pretty close to the last knife I'd choose for anything.
@BushCampingTools
@BushCampingTools 9 жыл бұрын
+James Ritchie Hi thanks for your comments. Ok so Why is A2 a bad choice for the fixings? It's a good to ok corrosion resistant stainless alloy. There is simply no need to go for 300 series alloys (they are too soft anyway) for the fixings, unless you tell me you are a metallurgist and engineer and even from an engineering standpoint A2 is more than good enough here. The blade design is not an original and can be seen on other combat knives from other well known manufacturers of equipment destined for combat use, not civilian use. This knife was never intended as a civilian model or for "bushcrafters" etc. The blade geometry is perfect for stabbing/piercing cuts/strokes. The handle can be exchanged for the bayonet fitting. Ok this latter part is irrelevant if not using a bayonet ie you are not a soldier. The tang is strong but light enough for use as a bayonet. You simply can't have a whooping great big full width tang hanging off the end of rifle. N690 Cobalt steel is a good steel choice for a combat knife that will more than likely see more abuse than a knife in a civilian's hands (excluding civilians who like to abuse their knives as apposed to using them wisely- all too often seen on KZbin land). The handle is tough and almost unbreakable and albeit uncomfortable is trying to chop with it (it's not a chopper but you can certainly chop with it) however the profile resists twisting in the hands, which may or may not be important to a soldier in a situation. As I mentioned the saw is not for cutting wood etc. It is when a soldier needs to cut something with intentions of getting a straight edge, for what ever reason. No one is saying, and I certainly don't, imply that this knife is the only choice of combat knife nor do I say, it's the "ants pants" for bushcrafting etc. What I do say and do is to demonstrate it's use outside of a military/combat environment, as believe it or not, some people do like to use military style/military knives for civilian use. This knife is generally "issued" and or the full bayonet version. All that being said I welcome your opinion as it's important for reviewers (including me LOL) not to be jumping down the throats of everyone who disagrees with what they are saying doing etc. Thanks for watching.
