I was curious about this neighbor and there’s a lot more information about this house. They are saying he’s ignoring all his tickets that are up to $11,000, probably more now. That neighbor is just being stubborn and lazy. The city has tried several ways to warn the neighbor to clean up or else they’ll go and clean it up their selves and that person can be arrested and still have to pay fines for the city to clean it up. I secured a green tarp over these items The next morning, at seven thirty, I caught this neighbor taking photos of the tarp. When I asked him what he was doing he ran back to his house. The items were picked up on Tuesday morning and taken to the dump. Wednesday a city worker showed up at my front door to post a notice about junk on my driveway on my door. After asking him if he could see junk on my driveway and him answering that he couldn't, he took his notice back and left. The fact that this homeowner has not been approached by the city to clean his mess up just doesn't make sense.

Good to see the rest of the neighborhood wanting to get rid of this eyesore to maintain the beauty and safety of their neighborhood and protect their property values. And boo to the city of Detroit for taking this long to actually enforce their own ordinances, and finally decide to send somebody else out to haul away all the junk. In the suburbs if you even dare to let your grass grow too long, they will send a hired professional out to mow it for you and then give you the bill. It's a vicious cycle, and thank god I got help when I did, cause I don't know where I'd be without it. I'm now helping my family get organized and back to having a cleaner house. It's not been easy, but the result of the effort when it's all done will all be worth it. I don't want to be an armchair psychologist, especially since I failed psychology in college twice, but If they are going through that vicious cycle, I certainly hope they get the help they need, for both themselves and their neighbors.

Hoarders are despicable human beings and should be treated as such. There literally ought to be a law, and I mean a criminal one.

Sure is a deplorably bad habit! It's like they've got 'junk yard disease'...

Hoarders have psychological problems. Calling them despicable human beings is wrong. The situation can be resolved without resorting to such contempt.

It's a MH issue that can be resolved. Despicable ppl harm others through WORDS or deeds...like abuse, etc.

Anyone with 2 brain cells left to rub together should know that hitting someone with Mental problems with a bunch of fines and tickets ISN'T GOING TO correct the problem. Whoever has a yard in that condition obviously has a hoarding issue, which of course is a Psychological condition. I can't speak for anyone else, but here in the town that I live, there was an old fellow that would do the same thing. His yard would get crammed with scrap metal EVERYTHING... We knew he had the INTENTION of selling it all at the recycler, but for one reason or the other, couldn't bring himself to do it on his own. The town's solution was to get together about every six months and help him take care of it. He passed away recently and now the town just doesn't seem the same without him... He really was a decent guy and would help anyone but himself out. Mental Illness is a really complex thing. Has anyone there ever lifted a finger to help this person out? Or is that person so despicable that no one can get through?

Whomever lives there is sick mentally. They need help. They are hoarders as you guys can see. Instead of kicking them and giving them fines. Call Adult protective services to see if this person is mentally stable enough to live on their own at least. This is so sad. I'm looking deeper into the situation. This person is is sick to think that this is ok to live like this.😢

Good for this gentleman not leaving the neighborhood he has called home all of his life - he is the type of neighbor you want to have. I wouldn't move either because of a mentally ill neighbor. I'm glad the news and city are stepping in.

We had a guy down the street from us who's house looked something like a junk yard. Not only that. The house was falling apart. No grass, just huge concrete rocks, broken down vehicles with green stickers. City said he gets tickets all the time. All he does is pay the fine or go to jail for a few days. Homeowners association wont force him to clean it up. Just report it.

Great so there's a tenant living there of course there you go America always feeling sorry for the damn tenants that's what tenants do to your property now the landlord is the one getting all the tickets and fines that's not fair
@allthingsnu4673 Жыл бұрын
The neighbor could be mentally ill, but either way, he/she clearly doesn't care about the tickets. I hope the city follows through, gets all of this junk removed and stays on top of it.

We also have a problem in my neighborhood but just like your story not much get done. It depreciates the resale value of your home. Asia is many houses in my neighborhood are up for sale. Next move is to call the county health department.

Even if he'd have tried to sell their home, the 1st sight of that neighbors over cluttered yard would dissuade any potential buyers. As well as devalue their surrounding properties values.
@sophocles1198 Жыл бұрын
If he ever wants to sell that house I imagine that he'll have to pay all the tickets and penalties.
