Are there any elderly abuse laws in South Carolina? Stealing from a widow with dementia is evil.

I can’t believe the audacity of these thieves stealing from a dead man, and especially with a wife who has dementia! I hope they get what they deserve! Whoever reads this, please make sure you have a will and you must notify and show someone you trust, your banker, minister , best friend, sibling, what you want done when you die! My father-in-law died 8/31/2021 and even though he had a will, it has been very stressful for my husband who is an only child. My FIL was very successful and owned property that my husband did not even know or had been on some of the property. It has been very stressful for my husband, to do it exactly the way my f in-law would want it. I’ve been very supportive of my husband. He just wants to do it exactly the way my FIL stated in Will. I just want to teach you though if your loved one did not leave enough money to pay his bills, or money to give to others that he requested in his will, it falls back on the heir. Just plan your final wishes before you get old, confused and tired. Edit: I truly believe a person should never sign an irrevocable trust. My husband and I never ever got in his business, but the 1 thing we advised was to NOT will to our 2 sons, the farm and lodge to them together. But he did and it’s going to be a nightmare!

@thomasjoseph58762 жыл бұрын
They can't. The only agency higher than SLED is the SC Attorney General. You won't see any other out-of-state agency get involved including any Federal Agencies as they don't have jurisdiction in a state matter. The only things that could come into play would be if SLED and/or the SC Attorney Generals' office broke Federal Laws. Even if they did, which I highly doubt, how would you even begin to prove to a Federal Agency they needed to get involved and launch an investigation? The best route for this to take is for the people and the media to bring a massive amount of pressure against SLED and the SC Attorney General's Office. The world already knows that former probate judge, Tammy, is a crook, they should start with her. What they needed was to pounce on this investigation early and nail one of them down and apply pressure to get them to turn on the others for lesser charges against them. The town police dropped the ball and now SLED dropped the ball. It's almost like they are trying to protect the criminals.

@@LovedandBlessed4Life You would certainly think so but in today's world where certain media and certain politicians are willing to stand there and lie to our faces when we know the truth and they don't care, it is hard to understand. The thing most constricting higher-ranking officials and their state agencies is the concern of precedence. No Govt agency or official wants to be that person that sets a sort of precedence in what they do or how they do it. The problem is that others can use that precedence to get what they want and if there are no new laws to deal with the precedence, it can become a disaster because there are those that will take it and subvert it for bad things. Granted, this is a poor excuse for higher-ranking people and agencies to not get involved but it is what it is. Sadly, it looks as if a bunch of low-level wanna-be thugs are going to get away stealing from the old guy's estate and his widow. Perhaps at some point, a form of "Southern Justice" will occur. While I don't live down South at this time, I have seen it in action, and from what I was told it dates back to just after the Civil War aka War of Northern Aggression when Carpet Baggers from the North came down and took advantage of Southern Folk. The Southern Folk didn't take this very well and when the courts refused to deal with it, they did themselves.

How much more “intent” do the useless investigators need? How much have the cops/investigators taken themselves? It seems likely that the person that was mentored was fully expecting to be mentioned in the will, otherwise why spend so much time looking for it? Dogs don’t go missing, not does a bunch of decent hunting stuff, especially the firearms, but seeing Bullock who turned up to “rob Hollis’s grave” , weeks before she was appointed, so why was she even there? It’s probably likely that everything has been “fenced” onto the hunting club/members and the longer the useless cops screw around the less likely there will be anything recovered. All those old tropes about the people of South Carolina looking out for their neighbours is patently untrue, and it would be more accurate to say that they’ll rob the dead before the body is even cold - they’re just in it for themselves. WHAT A BUNCH OF DISGUSTING LYING THIEVES TO ROB A DEAD MAN AND HIS WIDOW. I hope they never have a moment’s enjoyment or peace with all their I’ll gotten gains, and Captain Wood’s reaction about “letting bygones be bygones” suggests that he’s profited from the robbery. If the cops can’t find this as sufficient evidence of a conspiracy to steal from the start, together with police/sheriff collusion, then it’s time to have independent investigators involved and keep the cursed cops/LEO’s/SLED out of the loop - they’re a bunch of prevaricating liars and need to be fired. Edit - SLED, aka Suspiciously Lying Enforcement Dumbass’s, aka unfit for purpose. The chief is a joke and is either another beneficiary of the theft or else he condones his lazy officers and their pathetic attempts at a coverup. Which is it chief, or will you just retire and save face?

Seriously I've been a Police Investigator for over 24 years and this is totally backwards. Where is the warrant to search the residence or property? Where is the Chain of Custody or Evidentiary Protocol regarding any type of evidence ceased, confiscated or it's location. There should be a list of officials that entered the dwelling or property and what evidence they ceased, confiscated and location. When Items where taken, they where quickly removed and thrown in a vehicle without being secured or labeled. It was like watching kids taking candy form a Convenient Store with nobody at the register. I've said this many times about South Carolina law enforcement Local, County and State, THEY ARE VERY CORRUPT!! Not until the FBI steps in that things will change. Once investigations start in and law enforcement officials are be charged, the house of cards will start to fall like rats fleeing from a sinking ship. It's a shame because there are a lot of great officers out there, and this activity put's a black mark on them all. It's Very Sad Day in Law Enforcement in South Carolina.

If this hasn’t been the most “Mayberry” inspired police investigation ever! What first-grader decided that thorough interviews could possibly be conducted without seeing the totality of the video evidence??? How were the caregiver and sister not amongst the FIRST interviewees? How else would the detectives have known precisely what to ask all of the lil thieves? This entire situation is mind-blowing. Did the Captain REALLY suggests to this grieving family that they should be willing to mediate and negotiate, so that “everyone could be happy?” For some FOUL reason, SLED is trying their best NOT to get involved. The Feds need to investigate the entire division for violation of oath of duty, amongst other crimes. There’s video proof, eye-witness testimony, incriminating texts/recorded calls, and I’m certain a forensic accountant will find all of the proof needed! So to say they can’t prove theft, is untrue. SLED and Marlboro County are either THE MOST deficient law enforcement agencies in the country, or they’re thieving, complicit liars in fleecing this family.

I'm from a small town in Texas. There is a mindset in these small towns which allows for the small, local government agencies to have a higher standing than the more broad perspectives of county and state level government agencies. Basically, if they don't agree with what the law would demand, then they simply will not react. They will delay and slight truths until people simply give up trying to have their issues addressed. The personal opinion of the Sheriff's Department should hold absolutely no weight in an investigation, but in these smaller towns where they don't worry about ever being held accountable, that simply does not happen. Write your Congressman about this, call them until something gets done. If that doesn't work, keep pushing it until something does get done. Lucky for the people pushing for this investigation, they don't LIVE in this area, because if they did, they would absolutely be victims of harassment by this point. Not uncommon for people who challenged their local authority to simply disappear, or end up getting framed in a way that was so obvious, it was scary. These are the departments U.S. citizens should be concerned about, not the huge ones from the major cities, the smaller local networks of corrupt government are the ones doing the most harm. It's a shame, but it is absolutely true.
