The power lines have been properly maintained. The bridge, however, was built (1977) when cargo ships were only 1/4th as big as MV Dali. My question at this stage would be: Why were updated protective measures for the Key Bridge not updated over the years as ships got bigger, along with the risks that go with collision?
@JohnHallgren9 ай бұрын
@@rocistone6570 and while finished in 77, was likely designed around 70-72 so definitely back when ships were smaller and not as wide either. And finally, as I understand it, they’re adding dolphins to the Delaware Memorial Bridge…decades later.

@@rocistone6570 I did some math's and at 100 000 tons, doing 8 knots, the Dali presented an actual weight of 402 000 tons to that bridge pillar. @@fullraph per ntsb briefing, the bridge is a type without reduency (and a lot of bridges in US are still such...). 1000 tons of lifting capacity is not that bad at all. There are larger crane vessels such as the Sleipnir. However, the Sleipnir is located in Rotterdam. Over 4000 nm from Baltimore. The Seven Borealis, a 5000 ton crane vessel, is currently the closest in Bridgetown Barbedos. But that too is still 1800 nm to Baltimore
