LaTrisha Vetaw is the only one who truly comprehends the struggles of homelessness, addiction, and the dire situations faced. None of these issues should lead to the surrender of city property to be held hostage by drug addicts. Drug dealers and addicts, in their control of properties, intensify criminal activities like home invasions, business robberies, and even endanger the lives of innocent people on the streets. The entire city is becoming increasingly unsafe, making it perilous for people to carry out simple tasks like buying something in the market or going about their daily lives.

Prove that these people are committing those acts you speak of, youre using hyperbolic rhetoric against poor homeless people who in fact the majority of them rightfully own this land we’re all on, if they wanted to they could fight and take it back and there’d be nothing you could do then stop short of killing them and if you do that there will be more than just a city wanting you held accountable to the fullest extent of the law, what are you going to do about it? Perhaps Kevin you don’t belong in Minnesota and should find a home elsewhere, I heard FL is doing well and Texas just go there, maybe you can help your fellow neo nazi brothers and “pick me” sisters to try and fight for what’s left of your precious border because that’s coming down too pretty soon, see what you and others who believe their superior to others and have been living fat for a long time can’t seem to understand that this is what happens when you gentrify an entire section of the city, this is what it looks like after a housing market crash and an economy tanking on multiple fronts, this is late stage capitalisms outcome, no one wants to be on deadly drugs, no one likes being so heavily dependent on alcohol that they’d drink rubbing alcohol to take away the shakes, no one enjoys sleeping in the freezing cold, the programs in place you clearly have no idea how they work and what the process even is in Minnesota to be rehoused and rehabilitated so spare me the bs neo nazi rhetoric.

Love is the only way to fix these problems and break the cycle. What is causing us to hate? What is causing us to give up?

This is what *_"love"_* is to me: It's better mental health care (free, in the case of the US - it's inhumane that it's not), improved social housing, and better addiction and recovery services. The decriminalization of these substances has proven many times over profound and positive effects and there are also amazing results from safe supply programs and groups in terms of reducing use, decreasing ODs, and making it easier to quit. Until societies have the proper infrastructure to support people with addictions and decrease homelessness, politicians are just putting bandaids on the problem. Unfortunately, too many people would rather watch our fellow humans die than allocate the funds to prevent it. *_Money_* and *_fear,_* are what is _"causing us to hate",_ along with the persistent lack of self-education, overall decrease of individual introspection and self-reflection, and personal rejection of empathy.

Maybe we all do need to contact this woman since she believes her personal experience trumps the experience of these people, remind her of the efforts being made to rehouse, rehabilitate and restore these peoples lives in the ways left that are possible for them, she sounds like she knows what it’s like but she has been far removed from what it would be like to even have a relative in drug or alcohol remission.

This lady is bastardizing the word racism. She’s brought the sense of a civil war with her to this meeting, this isn’t about black people for once, it’s about a small group of people huddled for survival primarily Native Americans, and I walked those camps all three, I’m just a guy that lives in the neighborhood and I don’t harbor guilt, from what? Not everyone helping is white or named Chavez which is incredibly racist to say that he’s apart of some effort to hurt the people who have to reside in this camp.
@ryneanderson8254
@ryneanderson8254 8 ай бұрын
You are missing her point. She is talking about the complacency as related to the conditions of the camps. She is also talking about disrespect given towards city workers who are clocking in and doing their jobs as they are instructed. She is talking about people perpetuating an idea that could be detrimental to the entire community - especially people suffering from addiction/homeless/mental illness. The opposing dialogue on this subject is needed and will create better results and outcomes. CM Vetaw is looking at the issue from multiple perspectives and I recommend Jason Chavez do the same.

@@ryneanderson8254 you’re making up a point that suites your narrative for her, she’s a grown elected politician she is able to use her words without the public having to speak up for her, you may try and insult me and others in the comments by backing such immature behavior but what she was doing to is not creating solutions it’s creating media fodder to make it appear even more so how no one in MPLS especially black and brown people can work together which is a complete bullshit lie, natives and blacks and indigenous peoples have been getting the shaft for decades and all we’ve done is blame each other, scapegoat one another, DEFEND EACH OTHERS MISBEHAVIOR rather than call it out for what it is, USING THEIR TACTICS AGAINST OUR VERY OWN PEOPLE, please tell me @ryananderson8254 ? And with a name like Anderson or “Ryan” you sound like the problem bro you should not be involving yourself in theses matters, you know nothing period hands down full stop about what it means to have those who resemble you and are actually related to you be subjected to live a life of such constant discomfort don’t try and keyboard warrior your way into a conversation you have zero stake in, I’m not just a neighbor I’m a pissed off Mexican that is tired of seeing those that resemble me and all other non Caucasian people be placed in such horrendous conditions so people that resemble you get to live high and mighty. I will say this on the what the city rep was saying and that’s that non melanin folk have no place in this movement but to be Picketing and showing up to the rallies and if you can’t accept that then you’re not an ally and you’re actually actively apart of the problem, so next time you come at me Ryan come correct cause 1 you don’t even fuckin know me and two don’t involve yourself in affairs that don’t directly affect you and if you do know your role bro because these aren’t the kind of moments where they want any kind of white saviors. That days done and gone.

@@ryneanderson8254 if you believe there’s complacency at that camp you’ve never been there or even spoken to the people who have no other choice but to live in such deplorable conditions, some of you may think because the media coverage has put it out there that the majority of these people don’t mind living this way and that they’d be ok living there forever WRONG AGAIN , there might be one or two people that actually enjoy living in yurks but others prefer the same privileges us as everyday American citizens get to enjoy, what’s the problem with that? If the city and or county own the land why can’t it be given back to a native America tribe to allow healing to take place on those grounds and allow those grounds to become a healing place for all human beings, perhaps the old precent needs to be turned into a housing facility, hell every broken down abandoned building we can reopen RIGHT NOW and give all these people a home, but it has more to do with than just housing, you know that in MPLS most apartments won’t rent to an ex homeless person due to the criteria involved in renting to someone with a foggy background let alone probably has no money no job nothing, so they have to be placed in these homes that require you to be clean already in advance by at least 30 days before that you have to enter treatment, YO THE ENTIRE COUNTRY IS IN AN OPIOID EPIDEMIC WHO DO YOU THINK THATS GOING TO EFFECT THE MOST, non white communities primarily that’s who’s been mostly effected. MPLS doesn’t get to choose who’s clean and who’s not, who gets to live in peace and who doesn’t, there’s other problems that need solving first, removing people from their habitats is not a solution, it is maybe for the cold hearted and selfish and wicked but for those with their soul still intact these people need our help, I’m just a guy down the street, but these people they are us, they are our neighbor, our fellow employee, our teachers our friends and our family. They are us, what kind of people are we if not to find solutions for those in need? “Ask not what your country can do for you but what can you do for your country”

The complacency rests in the idea that the camps should be left to remain in operation - despite the health and safety concerns for all residents. Some view they should, some view they should not. Most Minneapolis residents view it with compassion. You and anyone like you are not the moral authority of compassion for thinking one way over another...

If you want to talk about lived experience, how about the lived experience of those affected by the encampment sweeps and their advocate that Vetaw shouts down at the end?

These people need help no matter how they get it, and these so called professionals that have been in recent media coverage about the camp have been spreading disinformation like I’ve never witnessed, the reason why people from the area are standing with camp Nanookasi is because it’s not ok for as wealthy of a state, county and city let alone the fact that very wealthy people also reside near this camp but have not helped at all, you’re damn right we’re having to protect the only shelter they currently call home because no one else will, what the majority of black and Hispanics should be doing the white kids of white parents we supposedly despise so much are out here showing more solidarity with the homeless people of color of their communities than those who resemble these people the most. I blame myself for not creating a better foundation of education earlier on in my life so I could have rose up earlier and started helping people in this type of condition a long time ago, when your mother was separated from you, didn’t you want her to recover? Didn’t you want her to live? Or were just worried about your emotions the way you are right now? Because that’s not what the people who have died from drugs and alcohol in my life would have wanted for me, they would want me to study and understand why this happens to people and spend hours, days trying to come up with solutions for people suffering in my very own neighborhood. All this lady managed to do at this meeting was insult the seat and position in governing this city she swore to up hold.
