When the U.S. is on the brink of WWIII shipping our steel manufacturing overseas makes perfect sense. What idiots we have in our White House.

They're not shipping the manufacturing. It's staying here. The only thing really changing is that USS will be owned by Nippon instead of shareholders.

Do you even understand what is happening here? From your comment, I would bet the answer is "no". Please refrain from making silly comments until you actually know what you are talking about. The only thing different between this White House and the previous one is that the previous one would have its hand out, taking money from Japan and allowing it.

Allies today could be Enemies tomorrow especially if they can out produce you . Always remember if we couldn't out produce them and Germany in WW2 we all might be speaking Japanese or German today

Steel is a fundamental strategic resource. I didn't realize that Nippon Steel had a history of that nature. Maybe I should look into this more closely. My understanding was that they were going to keep the same plants and the same employees - is that not true?

We are idiots with draconian laws that do not reflect todays risks in a global economy. Simple to fix. What your laws are for us, our laws are the same for you.

As republicans you’d have to go along with nationalizing the steel industry if it’s that critical of a national security risk.

Free trade and fair trade, two sides of coin. In the past we assume everyone is fair during free trade. That just is a wishful thought. The world is balanced otherwise it will be broken.

High grade steel comes from the Dutch, owned by an Indian company, or Sweden. Nippon Steel already goes into those big cranes you see on top of sky scrappers (6” thick steel plate). NLMK is owned by a… wait for it… a RUSSIAN company. Who cares? Good for Nippon for having that much cash laying around.
