O’Leary is just way too ignorant and completely out of his mind. It's known to all the analysts, China has been proactively reducing the dependency of trade with the US, while at the same time, expanding trade and port networks with the rest of the world. China has been investing heavily in R&D, intelligent manufacturing and automation, it keeps innovating on leading technologies. Coupled with huge industrial bases and complete supply chain, these will give it advantage in quantity, quality and price powering. China made a number of policy changes to boost domestic consumption and to deal with debt issues. China also made arrangements with friendly countries for animal feeds and energy supply. China is self-sufficient on food backed by huge grain reserves. China also spends big time in its military and increase the number of its strategic assets. Chinese have been through much tougher time before; they are used to these kinds of challenges. China will also counterattack with its tariff on American goods, farmers and larger manufacturers will feel the pain. American consumers will feel the pinch of inflation very soon. As a result, voters will likely change the balance of power in 2 years. O’Leary's wishful thinking will not pan out, his idea will bring hardship to all, he may have to kneel down to beg for mercy at the end of the day.

It shouldn't just be tariffs. The real competitive disadvantage is over other regulations for manufacturing what China sells over here. If they had to comply with the same environmental standards, and the associated costs, there would not be much of a differential in labor cost.
@JPWu-c3j7 сағат бұрын
The trade deficit between the US and China has always been in China's favor. In 2023 US imports from China 472 Billion USD vs 147 Billion USD export. That means China needs to sell more than US. Then the Tariff would be good for the US. Moreover, most of the goods imported from China could still be made overseas if they weren't available from China.

There is this perverse denial that the China economic story was somehow not enabled by Americans and American corporations. It wasn't long ago when O'leary and his expert class where describing tariffs as socialist. I guess everything comes full circle.

Unfortunately, not all of us were financially literate early. I was 35 when I finally educated myself and started taking steps. I went from $176,000 in debt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and over $1000,000 net worth. I know that doesn't SOUND like a lot, but I'm incredibly proud of it. Now I'm fast-tracking my wealth building (investing $400,000 annually) and don't owe a dime to anyone. It's a good feeling!
