I lived just outside KW in Key Haven (mile marker 5) several years back. It's nothing but expensive for EVERYTHING. You are 155 miles from the mainland so everything has to be trucked in. During hurricane season you have to be ready to evacuate and leave your dream home that may get blown away. If you happen to be down town (Duval St.) when the cruise ships come in, be prepared to feel like you are on a kicked over ant hill. Too many people jammed together. The cruisers can be rude jerks to boot. If you must live in the Keys get out of Key West. Try Islamorada, Vaca Key, Duck Key - these are more idyllic locations to give you a real feel of getting away. BTW this video seems to be a recycle of an identical video (different family) 2 or 3 years back. Key West is only for the very rich.

Your attempt to scare people away was pretty tranparent. Duval St does get busy but at the Truman Annex you can hardly hear a thing. In New Town you don't have a clue what the cruise ships are doing. People who live in Old Town understand what that means. You're right though, the cost is incredible. From what I've looked through anything less than $2.5 million for home (not a condo) is not worth looking at.
