Lovely seeing this and hearing your comments. Way back in 1984 until 1987 we moored our cruiser on the Lancaster Canal, as the plans for the Ribble Link were going ahead. We often cruised to Tewitfield and, I have to say, it never looked like this when we were there. The restoration of the northern reaches might happen one day. We live in hope.

If they could build the entire M6 in 10-12 years surely they could rebuild the Lankie in notime - to Kendal, even lake Windermere and beyond! It's all about priorities, which is driven by awareness... and that seems to grow each year thanks to the amazing work of all the volunteers and employees in various canal trusts around the country, the CRT itself and of course all the amazing vlogs/channels on the internet, including this one! (To put things into perspective: The M6 to A74(M) extension north of Carlisle to the Scottish border cost £174m, for 10-ish km of motorway, which opened in 2008)

Hi Mandella (cool name)! 👋 Are you buying a boat from Bickerstaffe? x
@mandellaedwards54005 жыл бұрын
Now you've just asked the $64000 question. Are we buying a Bickerstaffe? You know when you’re 100% convinced you’re going to buy secondhand, and then you step on to a boat that’s just perfect? That was us at Crick this year with both the Bickerstaffe Boats. So we’re going out on a training weekend on the Katie K to be sure, then we just have to persuade Kev we’re worthy of one of his creations ....... Glad you like my name, if you ever meet another Mandella, please let me know!

The history lesson is very cool; it gives a great perspective on how long the canal system has been in place. The fact that it is still around (for the most part) is a testament to how history is treated in Great Britain versus in the US. Unless it's sacred ground or a historical park, we bulldoze it over and build on it. And the fact that the US really came of age during the automotive revolution greatly limited the canal system use here in the states; on the other hand, RV's are popular here. I think that's one of the reasons why we watch these videos - it's a source of a holiday fantasy, per se.

Colin and Shaun, I have never written a “fan” email/letter before, and frankly, have never used KZbin much at all. Recently, I was looking at KZbin and came across one of your more recent vlogs. I was really taken with your openness, your knowledge of life on a narrowboat, and especially your most interesting commentary while traveling the canals. The two of you have great synergy. I, too, was impressed with Colin’s frankness about his mental health! In any case, I became so interested that I subscribed to your vlog (only subscription I have on KZbin) and have started at the beginning with your first vlog and am following them in numerical order. Hopefully, I will catch up before too long!

The Forth and Clyde canal had a similar problem, As a road crossed it at close to canal level the answer was Millenium fund money (I think) and some reconstruction, the canal is locked down then passes under the road then is locked back up on the other side, so the road is still flat. I presume there is a pump to keep water levels correct. As for the shallow water next to the towpath, the Lancaster isn't alone, we have had that problem on quite a few canals over the years. Love your videos, and am following them through in order, I will catch up sooner or later!

You made it to the end and Dylan seems to have a new friend as well. I have faith for the Northern Reaches, the Ribble link took forever to complete too. There is a short spur off the Leeds Liverpool (Walton Summit arm) that was an option for joining the Lancaster at that point but sadly too many obstacles to overcome for it to be a reality. Glasson dock is a place that holds a lot of memories for me (my mum loved the place and was not averse to dragging us kids there whenever she could!!!) and it as scenic as the rest of the Lancaster canal. You two are so funny, love the outtakes 🤣 So James Brindley built the canal 😜 Can't wait for the next installment, I even made popcorn for this one!

Brilliant just brilliant. I grew up round there and its great to hear so much history of the canal etc, thank you so much, that was a heck of a lot of information to remember!. Do hope they succeed at some point to join it all back up again . As usual the outtakes were fab! Cheers to you both :)

Great vid. You learn something new every day! It would be good to have you doing vids on the canals and how they played a part in our history just like this vid shown in schools etc. Discovery channel should get intouch with you guys. Keep it up guys.

Foxes Afloat I totally understand. And I think that is perfect if it make you happy. you sounded like the David Attenborough of the canal waterways industrial revolution, can’t listen to anyone else other than R Attenborough talk about wildlife, and I can see that with you guys talking about history. There aren’t many that can talk about history like they had lived it. And even though Shaun (hope I got him name right) doesn’t want the camera on him much the vids wouldn’t be the same without him. Thanks guys

Interesting vlog, I race r/c model cars during summer at canal head in Kendal, as I’m into history I researched the canal and traced its route back to the M6, so it’s great to be able to see the area i was looking at. I think they should fill in the M6 and reopen the canal! TSE
