Nice question.. I guess a little bit of both depending on the rider and most of them know the difference a little tweak would do. Heck even a drop of half a PSI in tires like what John Hall said about Gwin.

at thias professional level the mental part is at least as important as correct settings. It would also help to tell a rider, that you changed something on the damper even if you didnt. I bet a few rider would come back and say it feels a little bit better/worse.

I’m trying to wrap my head around the stiffer = faster theme here. Isn’t a softer suspension faster as it neutralizes resistance (roots, rocks etc) on the track? would be super interesting to hear Jordi’s thoughts on fast suspension settings on different track profiles.

The faster you go the stiffer suspension you need otherwise you will bottom out too easily.

You´re right grip-wise but a softer suspension makes your bike less stable vertically - it uses more travel, especially on compressions and bigger hits, and rebounds out from a position deeper in the stroke. Thus, your geometry is changing a lot while riding. Regarding volume spacers: they are already running 6-8, not much space left for more. Additionally, if you´re suspension curve is too flat in the beginning and ramps up heavily it might still be wallowy in the beginning.
