This isn’t the first time. Remember the women’s 800 meter race at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Canadian Melissa Bishop lost to three intersex athletes, so the world’s top female of the day came in 4th and never got a medal. She lost to three XY athletes. The next year the IOC changed the rules so that XY females needed to reduce their testosterone to normal female levels, but Melissa never got the gold medal she so richly deserved, or any other Olympic medal for that matter.
