Foys telling of the families connection to "the Guiding Light"is exactly why his music resonates with so many people. I feel so fortunate to have shared a pint at one of his gigs here in the US with Foy nine years ago. His magistry as a storyteller is unmatched in today's music. This was my first dance song at my wedding. First time I heard it live in Glasgow was in the same venue my wife and I danced to it together at our wedding. Have some of the lyrics tattoo’d on my arm. Going back to see foy there again this December.

I’m grateful I found this post so that I can share the first time I’ve ever heard this song. I was driving to the Las Vegas Latter Day Saint Temple on Saturday. As a convert to this faith (from Catholicism), it’s been a worry getting too deep into this faith. There were so many things outside the doctrine that made this church so “weird” to me. I’ve been a member for 13 years now and I’ve baptized two kids into this faith. On Saturday, I took my oldest (11) to the temple to perform ordinances. I was so hesitate to take her because I’m not even to a point where I can attend. This song came on and it gave me an immediate peace that I can’t explain. I’m not the most religious of individuals. I study philosophy, religion, psychology, and anything else I can get my hands on. Regardless of what you think of my denomination (or other’s), this song coming on as I pulled into the parking lot of a LDS Temple was powerful testimony of my Guiding Light…Christ. Whether you believe in Christ or not, this song just seems to point in that direction…toward something higher than oneself. Thank you for posting these stories. They made me feel connected to my fellow man and made me appreciate the path that has led me to where I am today. Great song and amazing stories!

Such a brilliant song. I first saw Foy in Phoenix, AZ. All the house lights were turned down when this song started, and by the time it ended, only the tiny lights strung around the ceiling were on. I was weeping openly because it made me think of my Dad, who had died only a few years before.
