@@jamesmiddleton8335 Agreed Lewis is not a dirty driver, but there are so many people unwilling to admit that Silverstone was obviously a mistake by Lewis and it's so easy to spot. I checked his 1:24 pole lap from last season, his 1:26 friday pole lap from this season, and his telemetry from the race on sunday. Entry speeds into copse in 2020 (faster cars): 313 kmh, this year 311 kmh, when he understeered into Verstappen on a fully fueled car from the dirty side of the track on sunday: 314 kmh. Lewis was never making that corner.

The thing I hate about the whole Abu Dhabi saga is the timing of it all. Had this incident happened early in the season, no one would've cared about it. At most, teams would've asked the FIA to take a good look at the rules and that would've been it. Long season ahead of us, plenty of races to go, yada yada.. Just look at the other dozen times when the rules were "loosely interpreted". People are mad about it for approx. 10 seconds. forget about it and move on to the next race. Was the way the race ended questionable? Absolutely. Did Max benefit from it? Absolutely. Did it affect the championship? Absolutely. Was it the ONLY thing that affected the championship? No.

I think it was simple. It really started with the murder attempt on Verstappen bij Lewis hamilton. Karma came in and said to Lewis... this isn't right Lewis (this was to easy) and he told Lewis, you have until the end of the season to fix this. Lewis ofcourse did not and therefor Karma came in, let Latiffi crash himself (nobody would think that was on purpose) and let Max had the Championship. But ofcourse... he allready deserved to be the champion so all is well here.

For me, what continues to stand out about the 2021 season is that it highlighted and epitomized the shift in Formula 1 away from a focus on the pinnacle of motorsport as a constructors series and towards a focus on F1 as entertainment and a media spectacle. (Now, some might argue that his started when Ecclestone pushed teams to invite more celebrities to the races, but I would argue that was to bring more attention and prestige to the sport, not to turn the sport itself into an entertainment spectacle.) As much as I can acknowledge that F1 has been very successful in marketing, bringing many new fans into the sport, particularly via Drive to Survive, IMO this has been to the detriment of what F1 had always been. That said, as much as I dislike some of the ways things were being manipulated by Michael Massey during the season - with the farce at Spa being one of the lowlights - I did enjoy much of the season, with Red Bull actually able to compete with Mercedes, and a real title fight for the first time in several years. I admired the talent of both Hamilton and Verstappen, felt that either of them would be a deserving champion that year, and would’ve been happy whichever one of them won the title (helped that my father is from the UK and my mother is from the Netherlands, so I’d be happy on a nationality basis as well 😄) And then that ending took it all away. I would’ve been happy to see Max win cleanly, but not like that. I’ll give Hamilton credit for the class he showed after the race, and for telling Mercedes to withdraw their protest as he didn’t want to win a title that way, but it also wasn’t fair to Max to have his first title won in such a manner. Haters will always use that last race to diminish Max’s title, just as haters would have diminished Lewis’s title if the FIA had admitted immediately that the ending was a mistake. It was a massive f up, and the fact that the FIA finally admitted it long after didn’t do much to change the bitter taste in my mouth. Liberty media had scored a coup by making the final race the most watched race in F1 history, with more of the world paying attention to an F1 race than ever before, and the FIA made it look like the WWE. I was absolutely sickened, and disillusioned with F1. I really wanted to say I would never watch F1 again, but after many decades, I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay away. At least they seem to realize that they pushed it too far in 2021, and have reined things in a bit. Now people can all go back to bitching about the normal level of steward incompetency, complaining about whatever they don’t like about any technical regulations, etc. Except, of course, for the toxic members of both Team LH and the Dutch Army who still haven’t let go of the grudges they formed in 2021…

To Will@FP1, I really love your reviews. You're funny, you understand the sport and your voice is great to listen to. I do feel the urge to respond because you commented about Verstappen fans. Although I'm dutch, I'm not particularly a Verstappen fan, and I used to be a true Hamilton fan before he got all fake woke. After the 2021 Silverstone incident and the way HAM dealt with it, he lost the last bit of respect I had left for him. However; I still cheered for a fair season winner. 2021 was the hardest fought season victory I've ever watched (been watching since 1994), and as much as HAM had bad luck (or disappointing stewart calls) in the last race, VER had bad luck (or disappointing stewart calls) pretty much any other race of the season. In the final race, RBR had a flawless strategy that exploited HAM's bad luck as much as possible even though HAM was by far the faster driver, so I'd say VER's win is well deserved - because of strategy. All in all, I especially value the visuals of HAM (and his father) congratulating VER, making up for a season in which both drivers showed the best and the worst of theirselves. I'm cheering for the next season, may the best driver/car/strategy/combination win, and should HAM win over VER next year, I hope VER will be at least as much graceful taking second place as HAM did in 2021.

Amazing season. Surprises at every corner and next to it. We never knew who had the faster car, who was going to take pole, who was to win, who was to lead the championship, what rules to play by and whether it was Schumacher or Mazepin to crash first. Think the first race summed it all up. Great battle for pole, great racing, different strategies, Mazepin spinning first, a rule change mid race and the winner picked by the stewards. We were ignorant and didn't know what was going to come the rest of the season.

Hamilton in that Mercedes should have wrapped the title with a couple of races to spare. Even without trying to kill Verstappen. The very fact that it came to the last race means that it's the THIRD time in his career that Hamilton failed to win the title despite having the best and the fastest car on the grid (he lost to Raikkonen and Rosberg before). Only Alonso comes close (two lost titles despite the best and fastest machinery - to Raikkonen and Vettel).

Except that the Mercedes wasn’t the best and fastest car on the grid. Not any longer. Red Bull had a history of catching up on the development front by the end of the year, but in 2021 they didn’t start well behind Mercedes - they started very close to Mercedes and kept improving. And you’re forgetting that the last race wasn’t the only one that was being manipulated in favour of Max. Perhaps the most obvious one being Massey sending out the cars to follow the safety car in the rain for a few laps to hand Max a win. Or letting the cars run behind the safety car for several minutes only to throw the red flag after Hamilton had given up position to Max. Plus, Hamilton actually had a teammate capable of taking points from him, while Max had a teammate who, when he was able to perform, willingly sacrificed his races in order to benefit Max. By the same token, the reason Hamilton lost to Raikkonen _by one point_ was because Hamilton - _a rookie at the time_ - had a very experienced 2x world champion as a teammate. If Hamilton had literally any other driver on the grid as a teammate that year, he would’ve taken the championship. It’s very telling that you take a year where a rookie finished ahead of his two time, champion, teammate, and one of the best drivers in recent decades, and use that to disparage said rookie because another extremely talented and experienced driver beat him to the championship by one point. As for Rosberg, it’s not like Rosburg had a slower car, FFS. And beating Hamilton over the course of the season just once took everything he had, after being utterly dominated by Louis in previous, which is why he retired immediately- he knew he would never be able to do that again, especially when he won by only five points, and an engine failure in Hamilton‘s car played a role in Hamilton losing at the end of the year. Now let’s look at the times that Hamilton didn’t have the best and fastest car on the grid - I swear a lot of people on social media didn’t watch, didn’t pay attention, have completely forgotten, or don’t want to admit that 2017 and 2018 existed, where Ferrari was the better and faster car, and Seb was leading the championship, but Lewis was consistently flawless while being able to push Seb into errors. You don’t have to like a driver to acknowledge his talent. But when you refuse to acknowledge the talents of the great drivers, it really is a reflection on you.
