That's unrealistic, considering the simple FACT that many Catholics have no access to a faithful, traditional Marian priest. A typical NO priest does not make himself available and many minimize the gravity of sin. Fr. Relyea knows this. I had to go out of my way to confess years ago because of the liberality of three local priests. We are now living in the great apostasy, the chastisement as. Relyea has asserted in other talks. I have no access to valid, licit sacraments due to ill health, lack of transportation and poverty. I am not accountable for this deprivation, the corrupt NO clergy are. The late Fr. Gregory Hesse, canon lawyer and Thomistic theologian, made this perfectly clear.

My daughter is living with her fiance. She has been to 2 different Priests and confessed the sin of fornication, within 12 month period. Both, Priests absolved her and both Priests gave her penance to say one Our Father. But, neither counseled her. Even she was surprised. I'm sooo grateful to have found this KZbin site. There is a vast difference between going to Confession with a TLM Priest such as Fr. Isaac Mary, and going to a novus ordo Priest. I converted 35 years ago (from being a Baptist), and have attended novus ordo Mass mostly--and here and there a TLM. I've been to one confession to a TLM Priest, and they hear confessions very thoroughly. I've learned much more in this one video than in 35 years of going to confession elsewhere. Prayers for Fr. Isaac Mary, his order, and that Catholic seminaries begin to train seminarians to hear confessions as well as he does, if not better.

I hear alot that we should frequent the sacraments, but then when I read about the saints they seem to be very careful about the sacraments ( receiving communion, being properly prepared through prayer, reflection and things like that). Same with confession, if falling into the same venial sin is abusing the gift of penance then what are we confessing every 2 weeks if we should already be avoiding even the occasion of sin? This confuses me. And I'm strictly referring to venial, once a person has stopped living in mortal sin and is now working on staying clear of it, while still trying to work on virtues.

I think the problem is when a person uses confession as a free pass for sin. We make no serious attempt to stop ourselves from a sin and commit it. Perhaps even thinking in the back of our mind that we can do it since we can always go to confession to remove the guilt anyway. This is where the problem is. Of course we have tendencies toward venial sin but by frequent confession we are given counsel that can help us overcome it. Each confession perfecting us further. Catching ourselves more easily. Ever decreasing the frequency of sin. Eliminating some and moving toward working on simple imperfection and becoming a saint.

From what I know it is best to make anonymous confessions. The priest should never know your identity. What I have learned is that Canon law states, that a partition of some sort must be present in particular when confessing sins against the 6th and 9th commandment, to conceal and protect the identity of the penitent and of course to protect the priest, from temptation and an occasion of sin.
