Interesting topic this is. Sovereigns are sold off the back of been CGT free to the UK market, but if you also invested in fractional gold foreign coins surely when the time came around to sell, unless you sold a large quantity of coins at once, there would be no CGT to pay anyway.
@SovereignSaurus
@SovereignSaurus 7 ай бұрын
Great question... For a couple of reasons and of course.... Not tax advice but.... The UK CGT allowance is reducing further in April for the 2024-2025 tax year to £3000. Doesn't go far if you're selling shares held outside of an ISA or selling a property that isn't your main residence for eg. If someone is buying a few gold coins and that is all they have or all they are disposing of in the relevant tax year then £3k of profit might need a large number of coins before needing to pay CGT yes 👍🏼

And keep your receipts for purchases folks - both for insurance purposes and if (in the UK) HMRC ever require ‘proof’ against CG calculations. Nice channel - I’ve only just found you 👍

as always great and informative video, lovely to see these different coins and compare sizes, as you stated usually lower premium than sovs, so worth a punt from a bullion perspective. only have a few fractional proof Krugs, picked up at low premium. As you have educated me, the sov is king or queen depending on head. Keep up the good work......i dont know where you come up with all your video ideas. look forward to your next video

Hi, thanks for your videos! 4 Ducats coin is superb, one of the most beautiful coins I've ever seen. What I don't like is that it's generally a restroke (like the one Ducat), unless the year is not 1915. It's superb anyway. About Roosters (known also as Napoleon or Marengo), it's curious you didn't show any. Interesting thing is that Marengos can be found from different countries, which are not limited to those of the Latin Monetary System (France, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium), but also Austria itself, Spain, Romania and even outside Europe (Venezuela!!!)

WOW. I never hear anyone discuss the LMU. If you are interested, I recommend Luca Einaudi's book "Money and Politics in the 19th Century." I do not know about now but I used to buy 20 Francs (Swiss, Belgian, French), 10 Gulden (Dutch) for about a 3% premium over melt a couple of years ago.

I've long wanted a ducat. Went to apmex to check whether it was worth bringing a couple in. They're cheaper than tenth ounces certainly, the price difference would pay for the postage on two. Once you go over $1000 AUD you face the custom broker fee and things get more expensive. Be nice if they saw bringing gold to Australia as a good thing, didn't do the whole only 99.9% purity and just saw gold bullion as gold bullion. I mean we're increasing Australia's international position in gold, who needs those dirty depreciating Australian Dollars.
@SovereignSaurus
@SovereignSaurus 7 ай бұрын
Good point I suppose the other angle is perhaps they don't want gold competing with AUD 🤔

@@SovereignSaurus Yes, well they might complain about the removal of money from the economy, being invested in gold. but then we have the most expensive housing market in the world and most people here work their whole lives, just to put most of their income in a hole in the ground called a mortgage. All that productivity buried, instead of flowing back through the economy and enabling more animation of more people through being paid to work. By comparison a meager amount saved in an internationally recognised store of value, doesn't compare. But I take your point, they don't want us to have anything, that's why they create for us little people, devaluing currencies that they get to front run, ect.

Beautiful. I’ve recently became interested in purchasing gold coins that have riding or lettering or symbols of some sort on the edge of the coins. Might you have some suggestions or maybe a video on this? Thanks from the USA
@SovereignSaurus
@SovereignSaurus 7 ай бұрын
Some do have lettering or pictures on the edging as opposed to a typical milled edge. Coins like the 20 Francs from memory. I think beyond aesthetics it's to prevent coin 'clipping'

Love your videos! I like to stack Sovereigns. I have recently received one from a reputable dealer with what looks to be a dark smudge (almost looks like the glue would from a security sticker on a box). Do you have any idea what this is? I can’t see why such tarnish would have occurred. Safe to say I’m not happy about it 😂
