Hah! I feel like this knowledge is in both the "duh" category and the "I can't believe nobody told me this" category.

Penzoil brand cap wrench has 14 flutes for a better grip. Also, the oil filter brand will vary on how many ridges it has on the grip surface.

When the cap slips.. Clean your filter of real good wipe of any oil then rap some electrical tap where the filter is going to grab on. Install cap.. Done

next time try 1 or maybe 2 if needed vinyl or latex gloves around the filter then place you filter cap on. Should get enough grip.

That type of oil filter wrench is only good for installing filters, which you do need for applications where you really can't get your hand around the filter good (like a recessed oil filter). They type of wrench you need to remove a filter from the bottom would be like the Plews 70-715.

You are exactly right the fram oil filter wrench is a piece of crap..Please do not waste your money..Total junk.

I've bought 4-5 different kinds and none of them work. I always end up using big pliers on them. I have the Fram FM101 and it hasn't worked for me on anything I've tried yet either. I haven't tried the sandy mud but I might try it!

@@woodsman8992 The Penzoil one has 14 flutes on the inside and works fine. Also the filter he is using doesn't have any ridges to grab onto like a Fram.
