Crash Bandicoot 1 still holds up to me, I've played it so often that nothing in that game is difficult to me. Just fun breezing through it, great vibes everywhere, awesome scenery, fitting music. Just sooo good.

I agree. I never completed Crash 1, barely played Crash 2 and completed Crash 3 multiple times on PS1 and bought the N.Sane Trilogy a while back and I think they hold up very well. I complete all three games and had a blast. There are some levels that are extremely difficult and there are occasional moments where you feel like it's the games fault but overall they are very good games in opinion. The characters, level design, music, world are so unique in terms of vibes even till this day.

Chris C I usually like to read the manga before watching the anime, but I'm finding it hard to get into this manga. There's nothing compelling (to me) about the character in the first few chapters that I've read. Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Berserk, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and My Hero Academia (to name only a few) were each able to grab my attention within the first few chapters, either through the art style, subject matter, or world building. What's the draw to Hunter X Hunter for you? Edit to say: I realize you said to watch the anime, but if I can't get into the manga (CREATOR'S INTENT), I usually skip the anime. Do you think people should skip the manga in this case?

dng2usb I got into the manga after I watched the anime. Picked up right where it the anime leaves off. The story continues in the manga after where the anime ends, but the anime itself is still a complete story.

It holds up to your nostalgia of it, maybe. Did you only own a PS1? As a kid who owned a N64 and only rented the PS1, I loved platformers like Mario, Banjo, DK, Kirby, Spyro, Ape Escape, but when it came to Crash I despised it because it was so damn inferior to everything else. The perspective makes no sense, it's imprecise as hell, and running toward the camera is just terrible design. Having to break all the boxes is also tedious and just ruins any momentum a level could have.

Hollow Knight is mandatory discussion on every Frame Trap until every Ally plays it. I'm only half kidding but the game was 100% GOTY. Also Ben, I don't know if you knew this but you can force equip over your notch limit but you become very vulnerable and take a lot more damage IIRC.

I thought Second Life was a dumb thing that only my college cared to emphasize, that made me laugh so hard that two of you had to deal with it as well. I had the exact same experience. I logged in and was immediately surrounded by naked people in a virtual club, every student in the class trolled them, and then we halfheartedly made our own little creations before having to meet up virtually at the end.

Thanks again for helping me get through the work week! You guys get a bonus hotdog with mustard (and your choice of condiment) for 1000% less use of the word "like" compared to other videogame podcasts.

Deebrickashaw Last I never realised before you just said it but the best thing about the Allies is they don't say 'like' every other word, so many Americans say it so much its infuriating.

Rayza NC, Specifically hosts of videogame podcasts. I listen to many genres of podcasts and I have stopped listening to a handful because the hosts drop multiple uses of the word "like" in a single sentence. I am American and grew up during the 80's and 90's when the use of that word took hold. It has reached a point where people use it so frequently, if it was removed from a playback of they're commentary, it would be nonsense. I have never been a grammar A hole but the use of the word "like" is just out of control. Stop, gather your thoughts, pause again maybe one second, then spit out your thoughts.

Something I think is really cool about Hollow Knight's Shade mechanic that I don't think a lot of people talk about is that's a really natural way to make you more curious about the story. They could just have left your Geo on the ground for you to pick up, but your dead body turning into a colour-inverted ghost version of yourself was something that, personally, really caught me off-guard and made me start questioning just who or what the protagonist is. It isn't just a meaningless death punishment mechanic, it holds some real weight and story implications and that is something I think is really novel.

Evaluating Tomb Raider when nobody on the panel has played it recently, classy. In the world where you can literally beat platforming sections in 3rd person action/adventure games with your eyes closed, classic TR is a very unique experience with extremely deliberate controls so there's a learning curve. And it did environments like few games since. You know how people praise Dark Souls for forcing you to really take in the world around you in order to make progress? Well Tomb Raider did the same exact thing in 1996. If there's anything about it that doesn't hold up, it's the shooting, but there isn't a lot of it. Having said that, TR2 was a big improvement over TR1. Source: I played them earlier this year. Holds up.

Hitman 2016 is a masterpiece. Spent 60 hours in that game before finally moving on to other things, but could easily go back and waste more time, going for challenges, excalations, etc. My favourite things about that game is the story in each individual level, which has always been more interesting than whatever overall narrative there is for the game. Bangkok and Sapienza especially have absolutely fascinating plots that are incredibly satisfying to discover all the pieces and how they fit together.

Oh hey, PSA for tiny group of people who probably won't see this: If you bought Earthlock under its previous title (Earthlock: Festival of Magic), you might need to go find it in the store you bought it from and purchase it again for... Free. That was worded poorly. I bought it on PSN and when I looked up Earthlock no subtitle it was a separate entry with the cost of "free" tied to it. I'm going to have to give it a second shot. Didn't get far the first time, but love to hear about devs who continue to improve games that need it.

Banjo-Kazooie is in my top 3 of all time, so it definitely holds up. The controls are a little iffy, but the levels, music and graphics are all still great. Weird thing though, Gobi's Valley is one of my least favourite in the game, unlike Kyle and Ben. It's not bad in any way, but doesn't feel particularly special. Click Clock Wood and Freezeezy Peak would be my favourites.

The the Banjo Kazooie quiz salt is still in effect, I see. The hate for it is over blown IMO. There was a nice variety in the types of questions: Audio, Visual, Trivia and Challenge based. Some of the question are a bit obscure, but I feel they could be conquered those with basic test taking skills. The characters, music and sound effects were memorable enough to make for reasonable questions.

Since Kyle asked, there was an episode of Mandatory Update Nights where Ian essentially said the beauty bois are the fans that will watch literally anything from beginning to end regardless of what the content is, just because it was produced by you guys. I just wanna say I'm 24 and I played the first Tomb Raider not too long ago on friends recommendation, and it's still one hell of a game. Yes the controls and the camera are awkward and and rigid, but there's a finesse to it and to the way Lara moves through her environment. To me, more than Uncharted and more than most recent games, this is one the few real 3D platforming games, where traversal through a world is the problem and a puzzle that you have to solve through careful observation and daring exploration. The fact that controling Lara is hard only makes it a better experience in my mind because what she's doing IS hard, you feel her effort. I loved most of that game, being very late to the party. That being said, the shooting was pretty shitty.

Kyle is straight up wrong about Gon from HxH, he absolutely has limits and the one of the things that make HxH interesting is seeing how they actually overcome those limitations in believable ways, unlike just powering up through their sheer will as in DBZ. And just doing an unfair but direct comparisson of Tien and Gon, I have a hard time believing Gon would win that fight, power levels in dbz are just higher all over.

I'm right there with you about VR, Ben. In fact, I think I might be even worse. I recently bought a PSVR and was hard out on it after feeling so sick one day while playing Resident Evil 7, I couldn't even eat for the rest of the day. It's a bummer, by my PSVR is now back in the box indefinetely. The cost of my well being is just too high and, if I'm being completely honest, I didn't find it to be all that immersive with the super low resolution and the bluriness, minuscule field of view and mess of cables, so it's really hard for me to justify insisting on it while feeling so awful. Will probably try it again for tetris effect and beat saber, but that's about it.

Super hype for Fire Emblem myself, since it's one of my favorite series, but I totally see how it gets a Lukewarm reception. Plot wise, we know little, and from what we can gleam, it's not every exciting or interesting just yet. Regardless of how people feel about Fates, from the get go the story and overall theme of two very different kingdoms clashing sounded awesome. And no doubt the visuals could be better, especially for the map from what we've seen. But I am sure it will look awesome with more time. Recent Nintendo games usually have a huge visual jump from earlier trailers to launch.

I defiantly consider myself a Beauty Boi. I thought we where an old and forgotten order but if Kyle is going on the record in saying the Beauty Bois are not only, not forgotten but are infact the forerunner for an Ally!? This is big news for the Beauty Bois indeed.
