41:20 You don't need Mew nor Meltan and Melmetal to complete the Dex. It's a nice thing Game Freak does, because mythical Pokémon aren't always easily available. So even if the player don't register them, they can still get a Diploma and a Shiny Charm for completing the Dex. // Thank you for the episode!

Just a quick comment on Fallout 76. People are concerned because Bethesda reconfirmed their commitment to use the same engine for Starfield and TES6. The Gamebryo engine (Creation engine, just a modified version) is the same engine they used on Morrowind. They really need to take it out back and shoot it.

@@jayjayson9613 I'll be skipping TES6 and Starfield for the same reason, Fallout 4 was my last straw. I came around on that game quite a bit but the engine is a travesty and ruins the experience. They have infinite money over there, why they aren't using it to make a new engine before people get fed up with these issues is baffling to me.

Ben is great at expressing the shortcomings of fallout 76. I actually don't understand how anyone at Bethesda thought that game is acceptable. Makes me so fucking worried that they don't see any problem, or arent willing to admit anything without being like cheeky like todd howard sayin "ive heard our games have had some problems sometimes" they need a fucking reality check, they are losing everyone's favor.
@Horrorgins
@Horrorgins 5 жыл бұрын
I think it's more that they knew and assumed nobody would care. As you mentioned, Todd's cheeky comments about their games being janky, the beta test name 'break it early' 2 weeks before release, telling you how broken the game would be when it launched. They bought in to their own brand too heavily, and now they're going to be slammed way harder with ESVI and Fallout 5 than they would have been without this having happened.

I one hundred per cent echo what Ben said about VR. I also started feeling sick much less frequently with time, and playing on a full stomach, counterintuitively, makes it much better. Now, of course I have not tried something too intensive ever again after the initial trouble I had, namely Resident Evil 7, to say I`m 100% good with it now. But Astro Bot, Moss, Beat Saber and Tetris Effect have been very smooth sailing for me.

Even as someone that barely played the series, the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie is great. The fight choreography is solid and there's some real funny lines/moments in it. My best Black Friday deal was also my first, circa 2004 just before it became a massively sensationalized thing. Gamestop had a B1G1 on 'Greatest Hits', but the ad only showed PS2 games. I asked the clerk if PS1 Greatest Hits also counted, so he ran it by his manager. "Make it happen." the manager said. So I got Final Fantasy Chronicles, Final Fantasy Anthology, DBZ Budokai 2, and I think Jet Li: Rise to Honor for $40 new altogether. THEN! I saw this game called "Disgaea" behind the counter brand new (not Greatest Hits yet). I'd heard that it was awesome, niche, and went for far more than $50 outside of retail because it was so rare at the time, so I had to pick it up. I didn't get a deal on it, but for less than $100 I got waaaaay more value than I should have. Disgaea went on to be one of my favorite franchises after that, I'm glad I took the plunge on it.

Regarding Brads comment about all shooters being Wack-A-Mole, I disagree. Wack-A-Mole, when broken down, is you, using a one-dimensional tool (be it a hammer or an assault riffle) to take down one-dimensional enemies from various angles. The challenge is not about precision or prioritizing, but speed and reflexes. Needless to say, quite a few shooters have a bit more going on than that, and I would like to present my favorite example, the Halo-series. The Covenant, the main enemy faction in the Halo-series, is build around three distinct enemy types. The Grunts, the Jackals and the Elites. Grunts are tiny, and doesn't pose much threat, seemingly. They are what you might consider Wack-A-Mole, as a good to the head with any precision weapon takes them out. But what they lack in strength, they make up for in tactics, flexibility and numbers. A grunt might try to flank you, it might try to go for a turret or a vehicle to overwhelm you, or it might just cook two live sticky-grenades in its hands and run towards you. Not to mention, they usually come equipped with Plasma Pistols, which can instantly remove your shield leaving you invulnerable, and Needlers, which cause a damaging explosion if you get hit by too many in a row. They can also carry bazookas in a few rare instances. The jackals are more of a sniper. They like to fire at you from a distance with strong long-range weapons such as energy snipers, or they go in close behind a shield, usually equipped with a Plasma pistol that they're far more likely to charge up than the Grunts. When dealing with them from a distance, you need to seek cover, find them among the scenery, and take a quick shot before they do. When dealing with them up close, you either need to throw a grenade around their shield, or hit their hand holding the shield, which will cause them to go into a stunned state, in which you can get a headshot. The simple action of having to use a precision-style weapon to make them vulnerable first and then get the headshot before the recover, is alone more interesting and demanding than most enemies in modern shooter.s And then there's the Elites, who usually rivals the player in power and HP. They have a rechargable shield, like Chief, so leaving them alone after a quick burst means wasted ammo. They can go invisible, they have a beam sword that is an instant-kill at close ranges, and they give out orders to grunts and jackals, meaning killing an Elite will cause the other enemy types to panic and scatter. Already, there's a broad range of challenges just from these three enemy types, and that's not including the Brutes, the Flood, or the Forerunners. And Halo makes sure that the "Wack" part of Wack-A-Mole remains just as interesting, with a fairly diverse set of weapons, each with strengths and weaknesses. The Plasma Pistols that Grunts carry, can be picked up and charged to take out an Elite's shield, making for an easy headshot and instant kill with a different weapon, but they run on Battery, which you can't refill, so you can only charge and fire so often before you need to scavenge for a new weapon. Most weapons have a quality similar to this, where they have some really good strengths to them, but some fairly significant drawbacks as well. Combined with the Two-weapon limit, and you're always making significant, meaningful choices about your battle plan, around the weapons you pick up, against the enemies you're fighting. It's highly dynamic, and on Hard, very challenging in a very fair way, and as far away from Wack-A-Mole as you can possibly get. Now, I know Brad stated that he doesn't enjoy console shooters, but if you're reading this, Brad, I encourage you to, at some point, hit up the Master Chief collection, knock one of the games up to Heroic (Hard) and really see what a shooter can be.

With regards to Detective Pikachu, i don’t understand how ppl are not realizing that it’s based off the Detective Pikachu game. There are no gym or trainer battles in that game. @franjaff6919
@franjaff6919 5 жыл бұрын
@@SuperJimJam "Better graphics" is pretty subjective. I can absolutely see where you're coming from, and some of the lighting looks pretty damn nice. But, I can't stand the disproportionate models of the characters that come as baggage. All the character designs are (to me) extremely unappealing. The Pokemon themselves look acceptable though. To me it feels comparable to the 3DS titles in higher resolution. In that regard, I feel it's somewhat underwhelming visually, especially compared to the art style of titles like Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, which felt much more in line with how I'd imagine the world of Pokemon looking. I don't think the removal of random encounters is necessarily a good thing in of itself. There used to be an interesting trade off: either invest money in repels, or try to traverse an area with random encounters. Now that trade off is gone. Also, as a personal nitpick, I don't like how the Pokemon are displayed in the wild. It kind of breaks my sense of immersion and messes with the scale of the world when a Caterpie is half the size of one of the paths in Viridian Forest. Of course, that's just me though. The whole idea of scale isn't going to affect everyone, but if they're going to display Pokemon out in the wild, I'd prefer if it was done in much larger spaces. That way I could buy into them actually living in those spaces. Previous titles got away with it by letting imagination fill in the blanks. Riding and flying isn't particularly compelling to me when mechanically, they're not different. The unique animations aren't impressive to me either when they've drastically downscaled the amount of Pokemon available compared to FRLG as well. If it comes between following Pokemon (which adds nothing to the game outside of a nice visual), or a larger amount of Pokemon available, then I'll take the latter every time.

Technical issues with Fallout 76 isn’t the only reason to worry about Starfield and ESVI. Reports that the two games will once again be using a retooled version of Bethesda’s ancient Creation Engine is a call for alarm, as is the studios ongoing trend of losing more and more rpg elements in their games. Fallout 4’s quests consisted primarily of shooting-gallery climaxes. And Skyrim’s “infinite quest” generation made that game feel immensely shallow. Not to mention Bethesda in general has long since accepted modder support to polish their games instead of doing it themselves, a habit which they actually chose to monetize with the inclusion of paid mods. 76 isn’t the single outstanding cause for concern in regards to this studio. In actuality there has been long-running trends that have been building up over the last 10+ years with this studio.

I don't know if console tech is holding back the scope of games too much. When I look at Red Dead 2 I don't see any points where it feels like technology was holding Rock Star back. What I see is games getting as big as they can with the time and money they have available to them. Man hours are the scarce resource when dealing with the broadening of scope. More hardware resources will certainly help developers by giving them more options and not have to do so many work arounds and optimizations to get the things they want, but it isn't going to make giant games any cheaper than they are now.

I also agree the charm is all there in Let's Go, but I couldn't bring myself to buy it because of all the things they got rid of, like hold items, abilities etc. Removed a lot of the fun strategy. Same with the new wild battles; pokemon on the overworld is genius, needs to stay, but at least make it so that I can actually fight them. I'm not even mad about having to throw a pokeball Go-style, it's pretty funny. My problem is that that's literally all it is. Just keep throwing balls until it stays in. At least with battles you had to strategize whittling down their HP to an appropriate amount, handling statuses etc. That said I'll probably still buy this when I can find it a bit cheaper somewhere, it still looks mildly entertaining. I just hope its success doesn't mean this is the future of the franchise.

First of all, I don't have Fallout 4 not to mention Fallout 76. However........technical problems in Fallout 76 - not a surprise to me. I had experienced tons of problems in the PC versions of Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim, and the most common problem was the frequent crashing to desktop. Of course, the company could argue that the problems were caused by drivers or different PC configurations. However, problems come from a console which hardware is a standard, and I don't think that the company can simply response to the problems with the same excuse. Anyway, products developed by Bethesda = track records of technical inferior. Same as Square Enix, Bethesda is losing competitiveness in the industry - just my opinion.

Funny, though, that other Bethesda games don't have this problem, I'm talkin Doom and Wolfenstein. I think the Fallout and Elderscrolls team has been used to being successful inspite of cries of "build a new engine" and "give us real RPGs". It's worked for them. Didn't work out so well for Tell Tale, but Bethesda has been laughing all the way to the bank for seven years on Skyrim alone.

@ Fredrik & Filip Are these independent studios? I understood they were owned by Bethesda. I did know, of course, that id and Machine were the devs of Doom and Wolfenstein which is why I found it funny that flagship Bethesda games have been so roughshod by comparison, you'd think Bethesda would want to present as consistent a quality as possible across the games they produce.
@Fillthrill
@Fillthrill 5 жыл бұрын
@@charoleawood They are under the Bethesda umbrella. But right you are dude. Seems weird that they are not willing (maybe able) to push the front with their own IP's. Somehow it feels like laziness, not wanting to change the framework of their engine in order to make big games fast with boatloads of bugs. Bugs that are recognizable and concurrent across several games.. that kind of phenomenon cannot be easy to shake nor deny. I hope they wise up, one way or another.
@charoleawood

@@Fillthrill I think they are a relatively small studio that wants to turn a profit without having to spread it to more employees. I think they purposely set out to do quantity over quality --- and probably work hard toward achieving that goal in ES and Fallout --- and have seen little incentive to do otherwise. I think people at the top there have been pocketing the mad $$ they've been receiving from years of Skyrim success and I don't know that they care to hear us when we say, "change your engine" and, "improve your RPG mechanics". I truly don't believe they can focus on quality over quantity without risking money and investing serious thought into restructuring their studio, they have their kids' college funds to consider instead.

I get why Ben would want more demos or demo shadow drops, but the reality is that free downloadable demos before launch just don't promote games well and lead to less sales. It's a consumer friendly move and can help in some cases such as PT which was great marketing for Silent Hill before that got cancelled, but otherwise it's just a bad business move. I'm sure betas are the same, but they are a necessary evil (in the eye of companies) to make the back end infrastructure and the game better at launch. They are also often a reward for pre-ordering the game whereas a demo is just available to anyone.

Are we expecting the next pokemon on switch to be gen 8? or a pokemon switch game unlike traditional entries? cuz im hearing more and more people say gen 8 and new pokemon and whatnot, but my expectation was essentially a reboot of the entire franchise. I guess I am crazy for thinking that? are we REALLY going to get another pokemon game that gets split into 2 arbitrary versions that lock out content? Invent some new fucking weird pokemon based on a buncha new inanimate objects? like i seriously think they need to reboot, Keep a bunch of good pokemon that actually look like living creatures, ditch the rest. Make it a single game, unlock the damn camera angles, make it a real time combat system or something and you'd get ALL of the people who currently play pokemon AND a shitload of people that have never played it

I mean if you translate stuff directly from anime into real life more often than not it would be just plain freaky! Pikachu all smooth and yellow? Leathery like pompers gross flesh tail? no thanks. I like my Pikachus fluffy and to my mind pikachu is fluffy in the anime too it would just be an animators nightmare .

The Pokemon Company gives Mew away for free all the time via distribution. I have like 5 sitting in a few Pokemon games just collecting dust. I guess to fans of the first generation it still holds a lot of reverence so it looks like a big fat sleazy microtransaction but for me it was just a neat little bonus that came with the ball. Also it's not necessary to complete the dex.

The problem is not the early announcements, the problem is people being so damn impatient in our era. People want big games all the time (and then complain about not having the time ah :p ). Let them cook, let people work on those games. Gamers ask for announcements all the time (predictions about any Nintendo direct, any Inside xbox etc... have become crazy), and then complain this was too early.

And on the point of Sony and E3, I think its smart. I think trying to sate the unquenchable thirst for more surprise is the road to a lack of quality. I work in a creative industry and many times you find yourself at the point where you spend most of your time making stuff just to show and not actually making the thing. You know why RDR2 is just so outrageously good? They kept their head down and just got on with it. I think its always fun and great when they drop something at E3 and we all loose our minds but I would never want that at the cost of good games. We dont want the industry to turn into a sort of, fight for hype with shows and online buzz and little thought spend on actually doing a lasting legacy within a game itself. Its like getting great at making trailers and selling the idea of a game, as opposed good games, there is already a heavy emphasis on the marketing side of games and many feel to the detriment of the games themselves. Got nothing to show? Keeping quite? good. That makes me even more pleased because you better believe they are busy. And one final thought. This will happen more and more. Games will take longer as we make them bigger. We should be hoping to see more insight on the development, not spectacle. I am actually just surprised sony is bold enough to make a move like that and have shown a real level of maturity by doing it. It shows that understand that quality is more important than buzz and just letting their devs work away. Smart

Next gen will be all about 60fs and AI improvements as they will have an actually good CPU instead on the laptop one that's in the base PS4 & xbone
@Largentina.
@Largentina. 5 жыл бұрын
Thomas Parker It's not about CPU considering we had games that ran at 60 FPS in the ninties. It's about what developers and console manufacturers want to focus on. This gen they focused on resolution over FPS. I think you're right about next gen, but I don't think what happened this gen was because of CPU power. Especially considering the earlier point and the fact that there are 60 FPS games on this gen. And that's cause that's what those devs wanted to focus on. Like NieR Automata for example.
@tomofthepops
@tomofthepops 5 жыл бұрын
@@Largentina. yeah but those 60fps games don't look anywhere near as good, it's impossible at the moment for consoles to run red dead 2 at 60fps for example or assassin's creed odyssey or spider-man. We'll probably get most titles on new gen running at 1440p 60ps/4k30 for the super demanding titles and 4k60 for less demanding ones.

Alan Garcia Because there is a CPU bottle neck on these systems www dot redgamingtech dot com/infamous-second-son-post-mortem-part-2-ps4-performance-compute-particle-system/ Just think how 2007's Crysis on PC still puts many current gen games to shame when it comes to destruction and other immersive systems. That should not be, an 11 year old game should not still be a standard to look forward to. Ubisoft's From Dust in 2011 explored very robust terrain deformation. Far Cry 2, from 2008, is in many ways more detailed than Far Cry 5 youtu dot be/FCeEvQ68jY8 The CPU bottleneck has seen trends away from emergent gameplay. But I wonder if this isn't on purpose, if hardware manufacturers weren't saying to their studios "Give us games that look good and run at 30 fps. That emergent gameplay and physics shit last gen was overblown and nobody ended up liking it more than our prettier, more static games (like The Last Of Us) anyway."

Speaking of horror films that have characters that I can care about, for me the crem de la crem is Wolf Creek. And it wasn't just that I cared about them, it's that they were all so well written. And while I don't "care" about the villain in the traditional sense, he is so well drawn and acted that I care about the quality with which he is presented. I can't stand the Hostel flicks because they are so in-your-face with shock and they present characters that are unlikable. The whole idea of those films is that you are supposed to enjoy their deaths, and I just can't get behind that, there is too much real violence and suffering in the world to spend my mindshare on films that want me to massage sadism.

Don't get the "hate" on red deads shooting. I understand if you don't like the auto-aim which can be turned off btw. But the scenarios? I feel like they are better than most shooters. AI is taking advantage of the environment and getting to places to surround you or to get up on a higher level. And the guns feels great. Huber bringing Uncharted 4 as perfection is something I could not agree with. The foundation is great, it's fluid and you have multiple ways to approach the enemy, however the AI is shit. One person sees you and everyone knows where you are and as Ben said it turns everything into a chaotic scenario. Best shooting on console btw is Gears of War, don't understand the hate for those games either. Truly the best when it comes to shooting mechanics and feedback.

@@philbarton2832 Sure but it ain't only about multiplayer is it? That has more to do with guns balance rather than the mechanics I would say. In the Single-Player the shotgun is almost useless. But the feedback from using the weapons is amazing, both from a visual and sound perspective. In the same way as the new God of War game the weapons impact really feels like they hit and the weapons really does feel heavy, which is in my opinion at least what defines a great combat system.
