I think if you're playing Red Dead expecting it's the kind of game where you're getting more powerful to overcome the ending, you are going to be very disappointed because that's not it at all. I just beat the story and while there's no game clock I have to imagine i'm over 100 hours because I spent a lot, a lot a lot of time just experiencing the world and living in it and totally sinking in to the slow parts. Going on long hunting trips and running into random little encounters, playing a lot of poker. It's definitely the opposite of a video game-y video game.

Don't skip fortification building Huber. Played a Frontlines map that our team was struggling on, me and another teammate started building a trench that blocked the snipers view across a bridge. Our team rallied behind that fortification was able to push pretty hard. Large sandbag walls are also good at funneling people around objectives in Conquest.

It's so weird completely seeing both sides of Huber and Bosman's experience with the game. For me, a lot of times there was just way too much realism where fast travel from wherever you are to camp or whatever town you wanted to go to would have been a lot easier and wouldn't have taken my enjoyment out of the game. As in there was enough realism in the rest of the game to make me feel like I was role-playing Arthur without it having to be tedious. But, exploring and meeting people on side quests were some of the best parts of the game for me, as Huber implied in saying it's all about the journey. I wish on the other hand that it would have been more videogamey by letting me complete a side quest with a character I really liked right away because I was invested in them and not have it come only when certain conditions were met, like with the scientist guy who needed it to be raining and lightning for the quest to show up. I wanted the rest of his story after that, but he never again appeared on my map in my playthrough until even after I finished the game and it's a bummer because I wanted to see what else he had in store for me and the trophy will go unfulfilled now that I have hung the game up, for the time being at least.

Really enjoyed the discussion on Destiny 2. I think Ben's idea of Destiny 3 going free to play is a good one. There has been so much added competition in the multiplayer space since the original Destiny launched, of course Destiny is not going to command the same market share that it once did. Providing an easier barrier to entry and learning from the successful monetization that Fortnite has implemented could really benefit the game. On the other hand, I feel like Fortnite was a perfect storm for Epic. The battle royale genre was insanely popular at the time with PUBG, the game was free to play, and the art style seemed to appeal to a wider audience. Also, maybe the first person loot based shooter is just not in vogue anymore and may never be as popular as it once was.

I don't get it. Anywhere else online, people are bashing the game for being too much for casual and too middle of the road for hardcore Tetris players. Is it just that some people are missing something when critiquing this?
@RizzRaz
@RizzRaz 5 жыл бұрын
@@Ayoul I think part of the problem is that that "Mizuguchi touch" that some of us know and love is the most subtly (albeit deftly) applied in this case out of every game it's applicable to. Thus you're left with a large contingent of potential players stymied by a $40 price tag who can't think past "it's just Tetris", a half-truth that undersells the experience for anyone who doesn't know what they're missing, and upon reducing that $40 experience to "just Tetris" people are understandably critical of that crucial element. That Mizuguchi touch just results in something far greater than the sum of its parts, but you'd have to play it through to really know it.

I've been playing alot of battlefield since it came out and the grand operations mode is really standout. It's like rush from battlefield bad company 2. In the later battlefield games they have tried to mimic bad companies rush, but it's usually just a refitting of a conquest map to work with rush objectives, with the end result being a mediocre mode that feels tacked on. The engineer being able to build in Grand operations is amazing. You can basically build sprawling forts and defenses around the objectives, it's pretty crazy. A good engineer can build defenses that can carry a win if the other team doesn't built offensive "forts". You can wall off whole flank routes with sandbags with the only way to clear them is with explosives.This leads to some really cool stand offs. When both teams are unloading across a field from both their "forts", it can be pretty magical with tanks and planes bombing the defences. There are alot fewer tanks running around, but one tiger tank can make all the difference in breaking a standoff. Also they randomize the objectives type for each round so it's not "arm" the objectives mode every round. Something that's interesting I pre-ordered the game, but got premier so I wouldn't have to wait two extra weeks. On the launcher next to the play button theres an offer to quickly refund my game since im playing with premier. I thought this was strange because game companies usually arn't so eager to refund a game after I bought it. They are really pushing for people to subscribe to premier over buying the game outright. Like making people who pre-ordered it wait half a month, when they paid 60$ vs 15$ for the subscription.

Other than the combat and controls, it just feels different than all of their other games in a better way. And IO supported the game really well, lots of free add on content and new challenges, it was great. If Hitman 2 is just more of the same, I'm happy. Though I would like to see them add a stage or 2 in the form of DLC which they never did for the first game. Very hyped!

Really enjoyed the main story, though. So many awesome stranger missions, too. One of the most beautiful and detailed open world's of all time.
@Ayoul
@Ayoul 5 жыл бұрын
The issue with showing the objectives before or during the mission for designers is that it forces the players to play a certain way and some would restart before the mission is over if they failed a single objective. I guess they don't want that. I think they should just hide the rating at the end and let the players who want to replay missions discover that there are side objectives through the menus or something. Then you run into the issue of having an incentive for replayability that's completely hidden from the players, but it could be an alternative.

Ben, Kyle, and Huber must not follow the scene. Sakurai went out of his way to make Smash "for everybody". In fact, he openly said he doesn't like the competitive crowd because it's a small subset of the playerbase at large. San Andreas is a weird comparison, in the sense that if you didn't have fun with freaking SA, you are definitely not having fun with RDR2. The only things that are similar are these superficial survival mechanics. SA was the epitome of fun, just messing about and causing all sorts of chaos and spawning stuff with cheat codes. RDR2 is all about the story and is way more serious and grounded than anything Rockstar has ever done.

I recommend giving it a shot. I couldn't really get into the first Styx but the second one is a solid stealth game with some very challenging environments that are fun to tackle. Stealth isn't my genre, but I certainly love all the Deus Ex games. I'm also all about Metal Gear Solid 5 and, of course, Metal Gear Solid --- one of the Greats!! Anyway, you should also try Splinter Cell Blacklist, I noticed an absence of Sam Fisher on your list. Blacklist is my favorite game of that franchise, plenty tough, lotsa fun.

@@charoleawood Yeah, never played a Splinter Cell game either tbh! Just a big blind spot - I guess there's something about the whole Tom Clancy vibe that puts me off a little bit. If they brought out a new one, I'd probably get hyped tho.

Well, like MGS5, Blacklist just plays great. I don't care about the story in either of those games and I certainly don't jive with the gung ho oo-rah pro military slant of either of them but they are damn fun to play. I actually think that Conviction, while Splinter Cell fans don't like it, has a very good story and one that might be good for connecting you to Sam if you're looking for an "in" to the series story wise. I also think it's great fun, though it is more action than stealth focused. Blacklist is only available on PC, PS3 & 360 but I wouldn't recommend waiting for a sequel. I think Ubisoft has their shooter shoes filled right now and they like things to be multiplayer focused. The team that made Blacklist went on to make Wildlands which was a very successful game. If they do announce a new Splinter Cell it will no longer be a linear level based experience and likely push players more into going online than Blacklist and Wildlands already have.
