What always confused me, that for as many FPS games that were on the older and far less advanced GBA, there were next to 0 on the 3DS. I thought for sure we’d get a Doom 3D and Duke Nukem 3D… 3D. It was plenty powerful enough for games like Quake, Quake II, Hexen, Half Life etc that were all perfectly playable with limited controls.

The 2000s market was very different. Even if you look at the GBA, most of the fps games came out in the first couple of years, before it became clear that the main audience for gba was not that into FPS games.

While I cannot find much about any "Temple of Herkat", there seems to have been an Egyptian god called "Heqet" and according to the wikipedia entry named "Qus" there is a "Temple of Haroeris and Heqet", though no images or so are provided and I can't seem to find much else about it. This is likely just me grasping at straws but I found in interesting to look into at least lmao.

I find 3D games on the Advance always to be a very interesting topic. Driver 2 for instance is a game I would consider quite a good port. But it is really difficult to pull off something that actually feels good too and Serious Sam seems to be of no exception. Maybe a 2D version like the early Duke Nukem games would have been a better choice.

I always found it bothersome that some "preservationists" like Amdrew Borman/PtoPOnline, and Unseen64, don't actually release builds/dumps of the games they find. They very clearly have playable access at times, but never share it with the rest of the world. Their not preservationists as much as they are publicized collectors imo.

I know what you mean, but I've followed the guy for some time and he USED to release stuff. Eventually he got in trouble for it and stopped. This is his actual profession, at The Strong National Museum of Play in New York. Considering he could lose his job for stuff like that, I can't really blame him.

@FrameRater I suppose in light of that it makes sense. I'd say use an alias or release it through a third party, but I'd understand if he'd considered even that not worth the risk. Still though, there's probably a way. And I kinda feel like it defeats the point for someone in a position like his to even make videos then, because then it's just a tease, and the build will never be publicly released because "his hands are tied".

@@FrameRater Now why were those Samalyze videos deleted? Is it the same as all the others, that you eventually became unsatisfied with them? If so, I'd like to respectfully ask why you feel the need to delete (or in the case of the SS3 PS3 video and probably a few others, trim down) every video you no longer like or are no longer proud of. You can remake old videos if you feel you can make them better, by all means, but I guarantee you a lot of your viewers, including me, would love to revisit the old ones sometimes. I know a lot of deleted videos get reuploaded to FRCHIVE, which is nice, but not all of them get that treatment (like the original Advance video, and the Samalyzes). Would keeping the old versions of these videos on this channel cause harm to it algorithm-wise? If you really wanted to "cut off access" to them, wouldn't it be easier to just unlist them and leave them in a playlist? I just want to know.

Here's another small thing to note about Advance: Each level actually has three different passwords associated with them. These correlate to the three difficulty settings. For example, Praetorian Fort has NORTHERN for Tourist difficulty, FILLY for Bring it On! and MIRROR for Serious!!! Depending on which one you use the game will load the appropriate difficulty for each level. The very first level also has passwords attached to it, even though there's really no point in using it since you can just start a new game.

Yep, that Yusup guy sure is a pain in the аss. He copyright claimed so much music over the years, for many retroplatforms. Actually i saw him on telegram chat, texting using google translate it seems. He tried to claim that the music he stole is from some sharp x68000 game... while the original author was reading this lol. It seems to me he's just some mentally ill person who discovered a copyright claim function of smth. And because youtube and music streaming services don't care about some random music track written for zx spectrum like twenty years ago, he keeps getting away with it, making life harder for original composers and game reviewers

With many things in our society, when there is a market, companies appear out of nowhere! For music strike, this is a classic! Those companies exist because they do a job that would be painfull to do for each artist, but by doing it, they are making money, taking a cut, and everyone is happy... But because it is human made, errors are made, and because it is automatic, errors are amplified (if no one is paid, there is no cut to be taken).

@@FrameRater I am agreeing with you (we are on the same side) but there is a general misconception that the artists or KZbin are striking videos right and left. There was a legit problem (people should benefit from their creation) but all I am saying is the job is done by companies that do it because there is money to be made. Most of the requests (probably way above 95%) are not the artist asking for it, it is the companies doing it by themselves, and saying: “this KZbinr used your song, so we are getting the revenue from this video on your behalf, and here is the cut”. This is why it is so cold and why there are so many problems…

Even other music from other games was stolen by Yusup Dalmaz like some Special Stage theme that was actually composed by Yuzo Koshiro for instance. From the "album" that had that stolen song, the music is more or less an NES-style rendition, not PC88/PC98 which USES Yamaha-branded FM sound chip. It's like Yusup Dalmaz can't understand the proper definition of a music style. Oh, that Yusup Dalmaz still throws a fit to this day when he sees the latest soundtrack announcement that is made by Very OK Vinyl. Lastly, those who do music-related derivative works like making arrangements/remixes for instance ALWAYS give composers of the original songs the credit in a proper way.

So we got Serious Sam GBA before Serious Sam 2, I see how it is. Jokes aside, this is a very interesting case of a port. Considering the hardware one would assume it would work perfectly fine, but nope. Isn’t it funny that the Palm OS version is overall a better product than the one released on the much more popular piece of hardware? And correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the GBA a more powerful system when compared to the Palm OS? I can’t help but wonder what happened behind the scenes with both of them to cause such a massive gap of quality between them.

I wouldn't call the Yusup Dalmaz case "trivial", because it's actually quite a serious problem (no pun intended). The guy is literally stealing obscure music and uploading them to KZbin's copyright database so that it identifies as his material, when it clearly isn't. It's also a problem because this can effectively discourage anyone from uploading a run for Serious Sam Advance, unless you want to let Dalmaz monetize your video for revenue that should really go to Matt Simmonds. I had to remove my own non-commentary playthrough for the game myself, because the music plays loud and clearly enough for the copyright system to deem it non-transformative. And while I'm not getting any copyright strikes for the video as it is, I just refuse to allow a thief to make money off of my video for works that don't belong to him. In fact, I find it incredibly obnoxious that his antics haven't been exposed enough for him to have some form of consequence. Instead, the guy's just chilling while claiming whatever he can get his hands on. And strangely enough, the guy even has an Official Artist icon on KZbin? With only 200+ subscribers? Isn't that suspicious? I thought you could only get that the same way you get the Verified checkmark, by having over 10K subscribers or something around those lines. Either way, there needs to be a way to report this guy. 😑 Also great, now that you mentioned Sailor Moon in a Serious Sam video, now I can't unsee Usagi wielding a minigun. 🤣 Anyway, nice video. It's always nice to see someone have a soft spot for this game. 😌
