I watch almost every Steve short and most of the long videos, usually with closed captions on --- it still cracks me up when it says "steve basic architect"...when I close my eyes and envision "basic architect", I don't see Steve :)

But if you look up "Irony" in the dictionary, that is the example they give.....

Love the content and details. My next house will be so expensive with all the details that will have to be explained to the subs... Many of us here are not builders or contractors. It might be helpful to highlight the blueprints for overall layout of the areas you walkthrough before of after the videos and also to highlight the details you show also on the plans.

Built like this for years.Back when product was more reasonable, my homes where all plywood, did this for 20 year, many larger where 1 1/8 ply floor system.My mechanical rooms I would skin with 1/2 melamine.Was in the high end market.We did thing like double 2x4 walls,12'' thick, all caulk, boxed any lid penetration and sprayed inch of foam on back of sheetrock to lock it in are handlers,Related to the Build in colder climates book.In my area my boss was the first certified GREEN builder in that program.We did many of the techniques done now ,25 years ago, as it related to that book,MT climate near ski area ,houses built for massive snow loads also.One house my boss framed, curved roof lines 10' overhangs,Richard Smith Architect 2 years to Fram,all copper fascia and all copper shingle over 1 1/8 sheeting, all ice and water.Has a 60' long boiler in it massive wood fired, one in Russia. the owner and subs spent 20 years finishing this massive built, lower level all stone,eliptical steel for garage headers,500 ton.Every window was a radius down to 12'',12 inch thick wall.My buddy a logger cut down 6-6 ft across fir trees-600 years old ,felled them on other trees for buffer, hand picked in woods.For accent Massive see threw fireplace that had double curves white oak and mahogany stairs down to it.Lots of mini mansions where I live in a small town.Im doing more sub work these days as im nearing retirement, building a barndiminium with my son, just poured concrete.I sub for a large company local on trim and the average home im on is 5-7 mill.I see a lot a fancy stuff.Been in the field for 40+

I was wondering about the non-use of ICF blocks for the basement. In wildfire-prone SoCal, would non-ICF concrete walls fare better in a wildfire ?

Love all the details. How did you link the Stego vapor barrier’s loose edge in the media room to the vapor barrier (not seen) for the rest of the basement. Are they merged below?

Are those cold joints in the basement walls? Not good.

Curious if you had any thoughts on a number of UK banks no longer providing mortgages to houses that contain spray foam due to rot issues. Do you see these sorts of changes coming to north america? I'm a big fan of vapour open wall assemblies myself.

why don’t you spray the close cell before you frame the wall?
@stevenbaczekarchitect9431
@stevenbaczekarchitect9431 15 күн бұрын
because you couldn't control where the wall is framed. some of the insulation would be 2"+ instead of 2" so the inside face ends up at more than the planned 5 1/2" off the concrete. This way the wall is where I want it and thew insulation fills in the space

I'm worried about your health Steve. You seem really out of breath. I'm sorry, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't mention it.
