Framlingham Castle in one of England's greatest castles. It sits in Suffolk, in a rather small town that today is made famous by the fact Ed Sheeran lives there. Framlingham Castle is the inspiration behind his famous hit, 'Castle On The Hill.' However it's a medieval fortification that has an extremely rich and varied history.
Framlingham Castle has been the home to royalty, to extremely wealthy earls and lords and is an incredibly vast and huge stronghold. During the Medieval period the castle would have been a hugely bustling and busy place with many different rooms and buildings within it. However today many of these buildings don't stand. Its history is intertwined with Tudor royalty and with an incredibly wealthy Tudor family of which two of Henry VIII's wives had links to. The Howard family dominated the local politics of Suffolk during the Tudor period, and had huge influence across the country, but Framlingham Castle would be their stronghold.
The castle would have been incredibly richly decorated during the Tudor period. Its' history is so varied that it was even used during World War 2 to house troops because of the fact it stood on a prime defensive position.
