It might be harder for some who never experienced it to accept some have had it happen to them, multiple times, including as children, and been not believed by other adults... as if it's something a child can even imagine. Also as a disability advocate, I can assure you well documented statistics show people with disabilities and the elderly suffer a far higher rate of abuse by medical professionals and carers compared to the general public. Also easily fact checked online. It’s certainly not commonplace, especially as more safeguards have been put in place over the years, but sadly cases exist.
