The ways and means exist, its about changing stubborn practice and minds.

1. shifting away from crops with high water usage:calories produced ratio to more water efficient crops, a key example is the avocado and the almond. 2. growing crops in regions that they are adapted to instead of irrigating the heck out of a field of crops unsuited to their growing medium/environment. 3. avoid pollution of the ever scarcer supplies of freshwater to render as much of it usable, mostly by making large operations face harsher penalties for pesticide/heavy metal/industrial waste runoff into local aquifers. 4. get rid of lawns in areas that cannot sustain them off rainfall alone. i kid you not the amount of water that it takes to keep a lawn could feed lots of hungry mouths. there are solutions, but will the markets, governments, powerbrokers allow for this to happen?

So completely one-sided obviously since you spoke only to Kyrgyz and interviewed no Tadjik.

False history by France24. Fergana Valley has a Tadjik name because Tadjik are the ancient inhabitants of the valley Uzbeks and Kyrgyz were given parts of the valley by the Russians - purposely to create conflict between them and keep them divided. The same was done in Uzbekistan, where historically Tadjik regions were given to Uzbeks, and vice-versa. It's intentional creating of enclaves. But Fergana Valley was fully Tadjik for many centuries while both Uzbeks and Kyrgyz did not live in the valley at all.

It will happen soon. China uses 25% more water than they produce. Reminds me of there will be blood when homie is talking about drinking milkshakes

Groundwater reservoirs have been heavily depleted in many states already. It’s well documented.
