Whatever happens, these unfortunate girls will suffer. Either they will be stigmatised, or their parents will keep them at home. I remember how we had to wear uniforms at my high school in Australia. They weren't cheap. Classmates who didn't have the full uniform (blazer too) could not go on school excursions. Teachers behaved aggressively towards me for having a winter coat over my uniform when it was cold. Anyway, I deeply resented having to wear a uniform. Even at 11+ years old I knew it was a violation of my rights. Let's rid ourselves of concepts like one-size fits all. Ironically, these dresses are a bit like that (one size fits all) but let's not get confused. France needs to be careful. I believe that Macron is turning it into a nanny state.

It is real time The French people, The French parents take the toll to ask the government to adopt school uniforms for government and private schools in France from Primary to secondary schools and college. Then the Islam religious students and parents will have to understand that no fashion wear is worn in schools - UNIFORMS must be worn. Like this it will solve the problem. @muslimresponse103 in the US, you can have your child opt out of classes discussing anything controversial. In the more conservative states (Texas, Florida, Georgia etc etc), it's not at all part of the curriculum. Second, children are free to wear any religious clothing in US schools as long it doesn't disturb other students. The Supreme Court in the US has recently ruled on religious freedom within schools in a recent case. So, the matter is closed. You can pray in schools, wear religious clothing, etc, as long as you are not forcing others and not disturbing others. This comes from the fact that schools are localized and not federal. The school boards are elected by the local community, and curriculum issues are voted on.

This is one of the most ridiculous rules of any nation anywhere. As one of the guests notes, the question must be asked whether it is possible for someone to wear this clothing and not be religious? Is it a cultural expression? A fashion statement? Men are not banned in France from wearing turbans, which is a religious article of faith by Sikhs. What is up with that? This is not the 19th century and no other religion in France is anywhere near contesting the French political hierarch as the Catholic Church did historically. In 2019, a nun was told she could not wear her habit in a retirement home. That was rescinded when it made news and was exposed for its cruelty. What kind of atavistic nonsense is this? Perhaps, the most remarkable aspect is that France, exceeded only by the UK in planting its flag across the world in places it had no business, has the audacity to claim it is protecting its home culture where it literally destroyed the culture and overran traditions everywhere else it landed, as the rest of European colonial powers did. Granted, France is on its 5th Republic, so maybe they are just a little scared that fashion may bring this one down, too. But how do they include liberté on their statement of national identity when they mean "except when it comes to your clothes"? Jeremy Stubbs sounds like a throwback to Queen Victoria's reign. What exactly makes a public school something other than a public forum when he claims that girls can "wear the abaya in public"---except school? It seems that France's best move to restrain theocratic influence is with cultural intolerance. C’est tellement français !

Banning clothes in the name of equality. Comrade Mao would be proud! In the end you will have 3 types of clothes in 3 colors. Courtesy of the french government and his sacred moral principles. The problem it's not about a laic state establishing the limits to a religions. The problem is the state becoming the religion...

yeah, some chick way back at my highschool wore a Star-David necklace...it caught my eye one day, interesting, first one I'd seen worn..nice gal. but,as a religious symbol, it is easier hidden, barelky noticeable at close-quarters, , than some broad dressed to resemble a mail-box or wearing a potato-sack or 12th century nun's habit..

They have this right. It's not proselytism if you hide it under non religious clothes. For example, you have the right to wear a cross under your t shirt. If it shows, it is outrightly proselytizing.
