What surprises me is the fusion of cultures in music, it is almost not noticeable. It has a Western and Eastern nuance, of mythical China. Excellent. And obviously, without discarding the quality of the person who composed it, what gave brilliance and magic to this musical composition was the figure of Bruce Lee.

What a great rendition this. The original sensational theme by Lalo, set the whole scene of the movie. The use of synthesizers, quite new at the time, disco influence again of the time, oriental soundings, funky electric piano, and STILL got the the big band orchestra and a marvelous drum roll. Its just genius.......

I’ve been a big fan of Lalo Schifrin ever since the original Mission Impossible and Mannix TV series. Henry Mancini’s themes for Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky were also favorites of mine. Many years ago Schifrin wrote a jazz mass for the flutist Paul Horn that I bought and listened to…..many times as a kid. Another movie composer who’s a personal favorite is Lenny Niehaus who created some excellent scores for several Clint Eastwood flicks.

The box office opened at eight am sharp August 24, 1973. The lines were already around the corner and down the block. Dad and I were too late. He had to go to work. I dropped my head. He bent over and told his 7 year old son, " Ill take care of it." He waved an usher through the lobby's glass doors to meet him. Passed him a twenty. The usher said come back that evening. We did. The usher opened the alley door. The theater was packed. People stood in the isles. sat on armrests. and the balcony stairs. All fire codes suspended. I stood at my dads leg in the isle amid a sea of hips. Come here, young man. It was a lady with her daughter. Share her seat. It was OK to do that in those days. The theater darkened. People roared. The curtains parted. Warner Brothers logo. Then the Shaolin temple. The camera moves in on Lee complemented by the iconic music. I looked up at dad in silent thanks for me being a part of history. He indeed took care of it.

3:34 When the 'action' side of theme begin, it pretty cool, watch classical train musician playing Bruce Lee theme. Definitely have a 'twang' of 'sophistication' from orchestra. This a beautiful sounding version, but it lack that 'solo' pass, that in the movie version. How many year, before an orchestral player 100 percent OK, with whatever chosen to perform?
