To begin, please accept my apologies. I presently do not have the ability to convert videos as in the past. I’ve been reduced to having to photograph my TV in order to catch some favorites. The melody heard here is called “The First Time I Saw You.” Though I've yet to look it up, I think they used her own voice for this one. I heard it first as background music in the amazing “Out of The Past!” There were many fine actors, but this was the music dedicated to the beautiful psychopath known as Kathy Moffatt, lovely actress Jane Greer. Her entry into the café in Acapulco is worth the price of admission.
This was the same song, but played in the background to most of Jane's scenes.
My thanks to the team at KZbin who assisted so much in the adjustment of this small clip! I'm grateful!

You're right! She suffered greatly in this life. I'm just glad she'd filmed enough to keep us in her thrall. I hope you'll enjoy this one. It's a large file, but fascinating! Though she made a number of films, this is about my favorite! I compressed it as best I could: jdm364.net/Videos/FrancesFarmer.mp4 If you've time, please let me know that it reached you, OK? Best to you, varadero

+Shabannie Hi Shabannie, I'm so glad you liked this! I've been a fan of Ms. Farmer for many years. She was a brilliant actress, and very lovely. She was incredibly controversial and refused to fit into the Hollywood mold, and this, and her crazy mother contributed to her downfall. From what I've read about her, she ended her life on a triumphant note in a city far from Los Angeles. Thanks so much, and will write more later! Best regards, varadero

I haven't seen any of her movies either, but I did catch ..."This is your life part 1 and 2 on youtube...I suggest you start there because she said a lot of things being said about her were not true.

@@lennysvibe Come and Get It was probably her best film but her reputation for being a pain to work with prevented her from getting A list roles. her later films were not that great (Son of Fury was pretty good with Tyrone Power) but her drinking caught up with her before she crashed and burned.

She was so lovely! It's hard to imagine her as a villainess! In this clip, though she's hot for the pearls, I suspect she wants to please her Pops even more! After Tyrone buggers off, she drops a dime on him and gets him arrested! Creepy concept, but it reminds me of something similar happening today! Check this out, please: jdm364.net/Videos/TyroneYFrances.mp4

Like you, the first time I heard this was in the movie Out Of The Past, then I heard it in this movie with Frances Farmer. Now, I am watching, Law Of The Underworld-1938- with Chester Morris, and Lee Patrick is singing the same song. Haunting tune , to me, and in each incarnation it seems to be used as a moment of tenderness, even though some of the characters who sang it are otherwise a little "rough around the edges". Thanks for posting it; I really like the tune.

Thank you! This song had me mystified for years! I'm an old movie buff, but have never seen "Law Of The Underworld!" I've always been a big fan of Lee Patrick; as an actress, and comedian she could do no wrong! She could play gun molls, prison broads, Topper's wife on TV, with Davis in "Now Voyager," and my favorite "Auntie Mame!" She was an incredibly versatile performer....but I've never heard her sing! pepperquentin, you've sent me on a quest! Best to you, varadero

Sorry, I didn't see your reply until after my last post.I LOVE Lee Patrick! I thought the most bizarre thing she ever did was an episode of 1960s Alvin and the Chipmunks. She could do no wrong, as you say, and I wish she had done more... so versatile. YES! Auntie Mame, a must see, if only to see her as Doris Upson.

A search brought me to the film: free-classic-movies.com/movies-03d/03d-1938-05-06-Law-of-the-Underworld/index.php You can watch her sing at about 14:02 of the embedded video (I did not try to download a copy). Hope this helps someone else searching for the movie, someone who won't mind a distorted opening soundtrack.

+Linda McDonald Hi Linda, This is from "The Toast of New York!" It's from the year 1937. Kind of a convoluted story, but based on some facts! I've always had a high opinion of Frances Farmer; she was beautiful, and an incredible artist. Thank you for writing, and your interest! Best, varadero
