I don't understand people's f***ing problem with this guy? I saw them in london earlier this week - sitting about 10-ft from the drummer: I can tell you he didn't flam once! He was amazing! One of the best dm drummers I've seen and I've seen a lot. Don't think he was doing 300bpm; more like 270-280. Thank you, FGA, for the amazing experience and incredible albums. :)

As a producer myself, I never felt the guitars were too low in the mix. It comes down to understanding which instrument (vocals included) need to take primary role during a given portion of the song. With the case of Labyrinth, the mixing is spot-on. Guitars are raised for the bridge when they're the primary instrument. Otherwise, the whole mix is dominated. This is a very well "shared mix" album.
@AgeofJP2 жыл бұрын
as a guitarist who tries to know what exactly they're playing it's a bloody nightmare though...I agree for listening purpose I think it's absolutely perfect but Labyrinth is *by far* the hardest record to transcribe I ever encountered. Pathfinder, Elegy, Kingborn, Fall of Asterion, Minotaur...so many songs I would love to play, I'd give a kidney to get my hands on the score

Do you mean that you might think that he isn't actually playing the bassdrum parts? I know that there is at least one video of him with a foot cam but since pretty much all the videos of him are by sickdrummer I guess that it is to be expected as they hardly ever seem to use footcams in their videos. At least I don't have a reason to believe that he isn't playng it but I have noticed that when he is using the double stroke technique on the faster parts that the second hits are hardly audible
@taylort12310 жыл бұрын
Mustis1524 I think in this video, if you look at the setup around him, you can see the floor is far more congested than in other videos with foot cams so they just did an overhead cam instead instead of entirely blocking his walkway out

i wonder how long it took him to build that endurance and speed. i need some videos to learn more about technique, any recommendations?
@Mustis152410 жыл бұрын
Some of the most helpful things for me technique wise was to, after learning french-grip or "flying fingers technique" or "flying spaghetti monster technique" or whatever people like to call it, watch this video and practice the things that he says. This is the best video I've seen when it comes to blast beat technique, hands down! (if you've already at least started to learn french or german grip as I said) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHm3oZKmmJuMfK8 . When it comes to foot technique I pretty much just tried to find every video of John Longstreth with a footcam in it and talking to him on twitter about pedal settings and bassdrum skin tightness and stuff like that which can make a difference. Here is one video of John Longstreth showing his feet that I very much enjoy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2TTkqKfadyGepI And remember that the heel-toe and the double stroke foot technique aren't the same thing. Hopefully this will get you started. I hope this helps! I know it did for me anyway. Good luck! :)
@Mustis152410 жыл бұрын
Mustis1524 But of course there are different ways of going about it. Francesco uses more wrist like George Kollias while the first video that I linked to you shows a drummer that mostly uses his fingers when blasting, which is the way that I prefer to do it, both for speed and endurance and if you decide to follow that route, the first video that I linked can be extremely helpful. If you've got any questions, feel free to ask :) I will do my best to help because I do think that I have some valuable information that could help even though I'm no well known drummer or anything, things that might be hard to find the top drummers tell you. Just ask away and I'll might be able to answer, not that I don't have loads of things to work on and learn. Here is another video that might help with double strokes kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2jZgX9saM-Ahtk Oh and there is another one that I completely forgot about that I'm sure will help a lot or at least clarify things a bit as it becomes very apparent that there is indeed a difference between the heel-toe technique and the double stroke technique that you'll see in the video. Skip to about 6 min and 40 sec. From there on out you'll see a great close-up of great double stroking in action and even in slow-motion :D kzbin.info/www/bejne/eInYgJ-mlLyVhcU Don't give up if you don't get these techniques at first. They are all very doable once you get your head around them. I learnt french grip on my practice pad and had some real difficulties in applying it one my kit but I managed it after a while. And my early double-stroking wasn't exactly great either. One thing that you'll probably have to do for that technique though is to tighten up both your spring and you skin to understand the technique at first and so that you get lots of rebound for that second stroke. After time I've loosened my skin to make my bass drum sound at least decent again though that second stroke doesn't cut through nearly as well on a really tight and stuffed bass drum. I hope that you'll at least spend some time to read all of this through as I do think that you should be able to get something from it even if you just did ask for some videos. I'm not basing all of this on nothing you know and all of this took some time to write as well. ;)
