This song helped me eventually break up with an ex, actually. It helped me realize that I wasn’t doing anything wrong, and that it was my ex who consistently let their fears that I was going to hurt them like their past partners did consume them. It didn’t matter that I did everything I could to make them feel safe-even at the cost of my independence or my own feelings of safety. They had to choose to trust me.
