He knew if he pulled out the UFC would strip him and promote Gane as champ. Contract dispute, messed up knee, and Francis went out there and grappled his way into a win. Dana is so petty that he didn't even put the belt around his waist. Ngannou with championship heart today. Congrats.

He obviously didn’t want his contract to be extended and that’s why he didn’t pull out of the fight. Secondly, you’re not even considering that Francis or his team didn’t want Dana putting the belt on him. It wouldn’t be the first time and it happened as recently as Stipe. If you want to get even more recent then consider Colby who didn’t win but stated early on that he’d have a problem with Dana putting the belt on him. ETA - I realize Francis has stated that it wasn’t him or his team’s decision that Dana not present the belt. While there’s been no evidence to not take what he said as true we haven’t heard from Dana or the UFC on this. It certainly appears suspect that he had just been there for Figueiredo’s belt wrapping I wouldn’t expect such a public act with the implication of poor optics out of Dana. He had to know this was a possible outcome, so I can’t accept that it was just a poor on the fly decision.

This was such a technical clinic from Rounds 3 to 5. Gane was dominating at distance and once that first big body slam came about - you could sense Gane was becoming more and more tentative and Ngannou was building in confidence. That counter move from the scissor was insane! Gane didn't see that coming!

Francis is a knockout machine + you're considered the baddest man on the planet if you're heavyweight champ, he's so easy to promote, why is there a problem with money in the first place?

I wanted Poirier to win but I liked Oliveira’s style more. I wanted Gane to win but I’m loving Francis skill set right now. Monster power and now crazy wrestling

Clever on the part of Francis Ngannou and team. If Francis were to wear one knee sleeve, Cyril and team would have capitalised on it. But wearing two sets them guessing. Like everyone, I thought it was because he wanted to grapple if it comes to that. As everyone knew Cyril is incredibly good on his feet.

Glad he won, waiting to see how Uncle Fester reacts in the next few months. The amount of pressure they put on Ngannou for absolutely no reason is ridiculous, this man not only went in there injured, he fought arguably the next best heavyweight under Stipe and won. Grappling needs improvement but he improved alot

Ngannou will be a champion for a very long time with this continuous improvement .. Cyril times will also come.. Cyril is almost as strong as Francis. He was able to scramble almost every time. He was able to contain Francis from the bottom. Francis has very good fight IQ. Now, he can position himself for Tyson Fury.. Francis will do much better against Fury than Wilder did against Fury, or Mcgregor did against Mayweather.. Hopefully Cyrill will get rid of his trainer..get a new one.

It was surprising that Gane didn't try to target that knee seeing those wraps. Gane imitating the clinch early was smart to try to diminish some of that power from Francis, but didn't think the fight would play out so grappling heavy. Gane definitely overlooked the wrestling thinking it would be 25 minutes of standup. He didn't take a lot of damage on his back but he spent a significant amount of time being controlled on the ground.
