Such a gorgeous work. The final movement always brings me to tears.

Thank you for posting the score with the recording. I love the kinship with Dialogues of the Carmelites.

YES, striking similarities!!! And also reminds me of his Stabat Mater so much!!! Beautiful pieces from a great composer. His Mass in G is so dear to me.❤ Greetings from Miami. 🏖🌞

I think you've misidentified the recording. Georges Pretre conducted, and you've got the right choir and orchestra, but the soloist is Barbara Hendricks. Miss Carteri sang on the 1961 recording, but this digitally recorded one is from the 1980s.

Yes, definitely... and quite consciously, I'm sure. Remember that in that piano work the first movement -- the opening of which Poulenc quotes -- is titled "Hymne" (Hymn). Poulenc was always generous in acknowledging Stravinsky as his musical "father."
@Luca-gj9xn3 жыл бұрын
Poulenc is really brilliant! My choir sang "Les Tisserands" in quarantine style. Write this in the search: you will surely like it. Corale Novarmonia - Les Tisserands (F. Poulenc)

Where is this score from? Is it a new engraving? Useful to see notes corrected in the 1st movement!

I know she's her and I'm me, but I would have words with Hendricks right now if I could. Why *destroy* this beautiful piece with a HUGE SCOOP on *every. single. note*? It's not defensible in my view. I don't care about "vocal technique;" if you have to scoop every note in order to sing, please stop singing then. It just destroys an otherwise really nice performance. Well, that and not a single choral S is together. Come on folks. What, the technology wasn't available for getting S's together 50 years ago?
@cobblestonegenerator4 жыл бұрын
Seriously though! Im a vocal performance major. Im not incredibly experienced but i have a good rep. Handel, Wolf, Britten, Quilter. I have a bit of knowledge of good technique. This is not it! If i started do that scoop crap at auditions, id come last every time. The scoop is not a difference in technique. Its just wrong. Its not on the page. Ya, every one has their own style, but to constantly sing notes that are non existent and slide around like your doing warm ups is just disgusting. Its like not caring about the composers or the work.

@@cobblestonegenerator Word! A portamento here and there is one thing, but this was so beyond distracting and appeared to have nothing to do with interpretive practice but instead with convenience. Best of luck in your studies and thanks for the reply!
@arthurfagen57483 жыл бұрын
This reaction is highly exaggerated. She does scoop slightly at the beginning of each phrase but hardly on every note. Otherwise she sings very beautifully. Things are not always black and white. There are shades of gray.
