Great interview. He tends to be completely unfiltered and blunt and people often mistake that for bitterness or anger or rudeness, but he's really just an extremely genuine person with a very unique perspective and way of seeing things.

Phil lynott was a fabulous song writer and his songs will last the test of time!

I spent a couple hours in Phil Lynott's company in 1978 and my memory of him is of a very softly spoken man , very polite and i was saddened when he died . edit; living on an island is my favourite Quo song.

That’s so cool. What a fantastic memory! I got to see Thinn Lizzy open up for Queen in 1976 Front row. Absolute life changing event! Phil is one of the best front men in Rock history. Rest In Peace Phil. Thank you for sharing your experience. Brought back a amazing memory ❤

I remember buying the double live album and listening to it over and over again. It always took my mind and still takes me to every concert I went to. I think it’s those memories that keeps me still listening to it today. More so than the following live recordings.

' If the boys wanna fight, ya better let em ' is taken from friends 'Quality Street Gang' found themselves in a fist fight. It couldn't be stopped & someone said that line. Phil picked up on it & used it as a lyric !

While I get Frame's point about all sorts of music. I think for many it's a bit more nuanced than that. I won't discount any music just "because" it's of a certain genre. But after 50 years of listening to music pretty much constantly - I know there are certain genres that I will find a lot less that I like in them. So saying "I don't like free form jazz" or "I'm not keen on reggae" is really a short form of "I've listened to loads - but not found that much in that genre that I like"

I love the original Quo lineup and most stuff up to Back to Back was great. Francis Rossi always grates on me though - it feels like he's trying just a bit too hard and bit self centred. If I could choose to be stuck in a lift with him or Rick Parfitt it would be Rick every time....

I once went for an audition to be guitarist for a musician called “Adam F” (he was big in the 90s) in Denmark street, I completely messed it up and left with my tail between my legs. When I was walking down the stairs to leave, Rick Parfitt was at the bottom of them. I had a quick chat with him and he was a really pleasant down to earth fella.

Yes…he is arrogant! However, and this is important, he isn’t as starry eyed and gullible as a lot of “stars”! He and his crew mates did/do what needed to be done, even when they didn’t want to! Like when they were getting ripped off by record companies/promoters/managers and other sharks (as happened frequently with other performers)! When you’re getting crapped on, you either develop protections, or sink into obscurity! So, yes, he is cynical! But still a brilliant musician! Unlike (I imagine) the majority of people, I listen to the music, and tend not to analyse! I either like it for what it is, or not!

There is something false and contrived about him. Cant put my finger on it, and I was a big Quo fan back in the day, but he does not come across as genuine. rather,as slightly bitter and for for what reason.

Not particularly nice about Rick at the end, John Eden the producer was shocked at the fall out. Francis frowned upon Rick's lifestyle which is odd because Francis was a junkie/piss head.
@andrewsimm916528 күн бұрын
on his first spoken word tour he spoke very emotionally about losing Rick - I think his bitterness was more about what Rick did to himself...year after year
