Appreciate the candid talk about vlogging. It is like reality television - you get caught up in these "characters" and want to know more about their private lives, and you forget they are real people on the other end.

This is such a great video. I've been watching since the very early days (I miss the guitar content!) and you guys are in no small way responsible for me falling in love with cycling. I must admit I do prefer and miss the old format vlog videos featuring different people and the documenting of the cycling community you were/are part of, but of course times change and nobody wants to be making the same thing over and over again. You guys deserve the growth and success 👍

I remember when Bike Fit Tuesdays was just chats on cafe rides with James. Recently, Chris Hall has been saying “good morning and welcome to today’s video” and singing the lift song. I follow different KZbin channels due to this. Alex Dowsett, Chris, Lawrence, etc Really cool to see where the channel has gone

Really enjoyed this chat. Very open and honest. Felt really bad after commenting something prying a few months ago, then Francis posting a video about it... It was none of my business. The way you've changed the channel, specifically saying it's to reduce stress or to make things interesting again, shows a level of maturity I can only aspire.

Time flies, I didn’t realise I picked up with the vlogs so early in the story. I get that things must change, but I still wanna see more bike rides and adventures, I think you have done some exciting and funny content but also there’s been some stuff with emotional depth that a lot of other KZbinrs don’t film , I think you capture characters well. The trip with Nick Frendo springs to mind as something really memorable.

55:55 I am one of these people and I do miss Francis "adventures/vlogs" - my favorites videos are when Francis documents his tours for weeks. For the other videos you now produce (gears/reviews), well, there are already hundreds of them on youtube, so I am not watching them. Here is my honest feedback. I am sorry, I don't want to sound negative, but because I really _do_ like this YT channel, I wouldn't like it to change to a channel that has lost its identify. Time will tell, but so far, I am behind you guys

I stumbled across your vlog during lockdown, promptly went right back to the start and watched every single video you’d ever put out. Pretty sure I’ve also watched every video since and maybe lived my life a little too vicariously through your content! Not only that, I’ve also followed Lawrence, Chris, Kiera, etc. after coming across them through your videos. Totally agree that you’ve built a community here and it’s great to see. Really happy that you’ve found a way to keep doing what you (both) love and can’t wait to see where CADE Media goes over the next few years. Big love guys! 💙

I really enjoyed hearing the thought process behind becoming Cade Media. I'm relieved (in spite of the podcast title) you are not dumping the adventure vlogging. Your banter in this discussion is so much more engaging than the stilted, forced presenters in another cycling channel I quit watching. Can't wait for what the synergy between you two will come up with next. As for revealing too much of your personal life, I could never do what you dare to. I even hesitate to comment, in spite of the fact that probably no one will read it.

As a long time follower I am sad to see the vlogs go. And its true that the characters in the videos were key points that I looked forward to. If Chris was in a video or you were gonna do one of the hot chili rides I always looked forward to those. And of course getting more invested in your personal life because I was seeing it as reality tv. Watching various relationships starting and ending. Im glad you are looking to find a better balance now and look forward to the bike packing taste of old Cade videos in the future!

Great insight into all the behind the scenes stuff and issues. I subscribed years ago but have liked the Cade Media changes and been extra motivated to watch. I like what Jimmy brings particulary his scepticism of some products and advertising, pointing out how many gains are pointless/marginal to 'normal people' riding their bikes. I also like that the channel features budget options and encourages a just a go have fun philosophy, cycling in general seems to have gone incredibly high end at a time when people's disposable income is shrinking. :)

Oh man, what an episode this is! I felt every word of you guys describing the dilemma of vlogging. It really is a double edged sword of constantly trying to get something produced every week, whilst trying to be as creative and relevant and relatable as possible, whilst also making sure the information your putting out is of good enough quality and worthy of people's time. As you suggest, that sometimes dictates or at least leads to oversharing. But on the flip side of that, I think giving little bits of yourself up at times really helps build a community, because people aren't generally willing to reveal stuff about themselves unless they feel they're getting the same back. I don't know if that's naive or if maybe I'm just too new to vlogging and KZbin in general, but I've definitely noticed my videos getting more comments when a small slice of my personal life has been revealed in a video. As Francis says, I've also (thankfully) not had any detrimental experiences from that yet and people have generally been very positive. Time will tell if that changes.... Also on the point of making money, it's really interesting to hear your perspectives on sponsorship, ad sense and other revenue streams. I love making videos and would ultimately love to do it full time, however the only way to do that is to start making money from them, but how can you do that on a large scale and stay true to what you want to make videos about? Not really a concern for me just yet, as I still have a couple of hundred subs to gain but it's definitely something I think about a lot. So much to think about and unpick from this one episode though, that I could go on for ages... but I won't! 🤣. Big ups to you both for discussing this so openly and honestly. Really great chat. 👌

I first came across your channel when I was watching a GPLama live video (he was on Zwift - during lockdown maybe? not sure) you were doing an everest in Zwift at the same time, he saw you on Zwift's Nearby list on right and sent you a Hi message which led me to checking out your channel. Great episode, love the channel. Was lucky to have found the channel at the start of the last american tour, even my wife started watching. I have a suggestion for future episode: everyone has been reviewing cheap bikes and cheap components, the top channels (GCN, etc) only care for the top end 10 000£+ on a bike, how about a series where you review mid market things where true value is and what to recommend around the 2000£ mark, which is still expensive but doable for must riders at some point?
@ioplup

I will say, the reason I started watching the vlogs (as someone who never watched vlogs before or after), was that you lived near me, and were a cyclist. I would see you out riding and it was cool to know what you and the strong riders in my local area were up to. But as that has ended, I've stayed for the personality. I did drop off a bit when you moved to Newcastle, but seeing what your up to now has brought me back

Very interesting episode. A lot of background on your evolution, and aspirations for the future. For sure a big undercurrent of the emotional upheavals for both of you over the course of the past few years. For the fans that have been along for the ride for a very long time, many things that were not central to the main themes of the conversation were not touched upon. Off the top of my head: the music content in the very early days; the arrival of James and Laurence; the time spent in the "studio" space near James; the time trying to make pro video content for clients; the key bike sponsorships, first with Willier, then with Scott; the trips to Vietnam and Australia; finally, touched upon is the really personal aspects of the vlogging content and the impact this has over time. Overall, the change in the channel is refreshing and opens new perspectives. However, something has been lost in the absence of the daily ride aspect of the vlog content.

Really insightful podcast, really want to see you both succeed. The thing you guys are so good at is - in contrast with the GCN Top-Gear-for-bikes approach - is that you seem to ask: what if cycling was fun? Not knocking GCN I subscribe to them too, but you guys are much more likely to make me want to go out and have a ride for its own sake (and buy a Scott of course 😅)

I do enjoy finding out about the lives of Francis and his friends. I don’t enjoy a lot of the new format because I don’t really care which wheels are lighter or what handlebar width I need.
