A lovely talk. He speaks with quiet confidence about things he knows very deeply, but also a bit about things he knows only a little bit about (like psychedelics). He is of course entitled to his opinion and point of view, but I find other teachers much more useful on that one topic.

I never thought of it that way..... But it was obvious.... I was the only one of my friends who had a moment of grace when I took mushrooms... Where I knew that I am.... And more precise only am without I...... I couldn't reproduce it but I had other experiences like I was looking down to my thinkingmind normal reality and I saw that all of my problems where made up by my mind......

Funny, I had a similar experience at my first mushroom trip.... I knew why I am here.... And I am and later only the felt sense of being without I.... Couldn't reproduce it either, though I didn't really try to, the following trips had their own experiences and we're fun too, up until a point and that's where I stopped I was very philosophical before that already, with about 7 years I wondered that existence includes me...

The word evidence seems to dance in a bit dimmed light corner and kissed there gently and wild the words users. Of course not all of them, dimmed corners have limited space, for the number of dancers who could kiss there. Now this is an evidence, that that, is also not the last word. Dear friends, could someone recommend a practice to dissolve the feeling of separation? Meditation and self-inquiry contribute to the sense of separation between the seer and the seen (myself as awareness and objects) in my limited experience. After meditation, I as the awareness is still the seer and the Universe is still the seen, hence no oneness can be achieved with meditation and inquiry only IMO. Does Francis or other teachers give a suitable practice for achieving the first-hand oneness experience?

I can recommend the teachings of Rupert Spira, who is a student of Francis Lucille. He has posted several video clips on KZbin about this theme, for example "Collapsing the Distance between Awareness and the Objects of Experience": kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXyTkqWLe9uIbsU I have found this to be very helpful. 🙏🏻

I'm grateful to have all this plainly stated, but....I can't see how to verify that consciousness is not related to the body in any way. Certain drugs (anesthetics, for example) -- when put in the body -- seem to be able to stop consciousness, which would seem to be strong evidence that consciousness is produced by the body. I'd be grateful to anyone who could clarify this point for me.
@mccrackenalec5 жыл бұрын
GetMeThere1 I suggest you should examine whether when you refer to consciousness you’re talking about awareness, or consciousness solely, purely, or rather if there is this slight inference of consciousness being, consciousness « of something » like a body for instance. Because then of course, during deep sleep or while being under anesthesia we loose sight of the body and so we call the experience nothing...but is it really nothing ? You may want to try thinking about it with the metaphor of the observer, the telescope and the observed... hope it helps. Deep sleep would be when not looking through the glass, but then if you’re used to identify with the telescope and the observed, during the absence of observed stuff, you would be right saying the observer and the telescope are one and the same thing.

Consciousness, create through imagination the ego-mind-body, so Consciousness can travel, to have experiences and for enjoying the illusory world and universe. If the body-mind is unconscious, then Consciousness is not able to experiment anything. Because of the ego-mind that believes that the body is sleeping or disconnected to the world. It's only an imaginative limitations that the ego-mind is playing. The ego-mind believes that he has the power or free will to do something... feels he is the doer. But the truth is that everything is only happening. Consciousness or Awareness is not trapped or limited to the body-mind. So Awakening is about the ego-mind that has to realise that he is not the doer.
@eamonnspirit5 жыл бұрын
It seems you are inferring that consciousness cannot exist without an object to be conscious of. Yet, we may know that we had a good night's sleep when we wake up in the morning. Object Constancy is important to the Body-Mind and essential to our early development because it seemingly confirms its security. That is why most of us fear death.
@GetMeThere15 жыл бұрын
@@mccrackenalec I'm not really following that, sorry. If I'm asked "Are you conscious," there is no problem saying yes. If I were under anesthesia (or in deep sleep), I could not testify -- then, or afterward -- that I was conscious; i.e., that "there is/was consciousness." How can I then make a claim that a certain condition of the body is not required for consciousness?
@tbayley65 жыл бұрын
I agree these sorts of arguments don't really make sense. I think it is better to understand why it is being made, which as far as I can see is just to highlight two things: 1) What it is (essentially) that we call 'I', and 2) What we are referring to by the word 'reality'. In both cases, the teacher wants to point to 'live' experiences that cannot actually be reduced by analysis without completely altering their nature. We are very tempted to do so however, and then the freedom of live experience tends to be overlooked in favour of a conditioned set of descriptions and conclusions. That essentially dead 'knowledge' (it's just a model) is regarded as 'more real' than the living reality itself. It can be a useful model of course, if it serves the living, but it can get bogged down serving itself. And that is the unfortunate state of many people, who end up depressed or dissatisfied and seeking some more lively 'reality'. Somehow a spiritual teacher has to find a way to point to the fundamental significance of what they are overlooking - they see it but they dismiss it as having no importance!

I have to disagree with Francis here. This is a major weakness of the neo-Advaita path. They aren't very good at teaching you how to get where they are. The truth is, for example, there is a ton of research into psychedelics that give us a pretty good idea of what works, how much to do, how long to do it etc.

If Francis were here, he might ask: What is the *actual evidence* that your Consciousness (that which is understanding these words, right now) is "singular" and "unique"?
@SheikhN-bible-syndrome5 жыл бұрын
@@ElizabethReninger I think you are looking at it backwards because a claim of something being a certain way has to be proven And not a rejection of a certain claim. He is claiming We Are All One consciousness which is part of the viral new-age misunderstanding trying to unify everybody for control. We are singular and individual and this can be experienced by asking anybody or being a human being and noticing that you are individual from anybody else. Don't mistake certain situations where you can experience through somebody else as being only one unit because there's a difference between experiencing something and it being that way from the dawn of time.

Sorry to say but wrong. And, it is not some silly new-age stuff that your mind makes it out to be. The content of your first comment, who is the one righting that?
