Wow in 1979 a raw rookie 20 year old dj from Bristol i came to West Germany, infact i ended up in Wolfsburg in 2 discos The kings korner And The london Pub on the porschestrassa. I absolutely loved my time there. I met a beautiful girl a double for the blonde in Abba. Simone Naumann or Neumann. Beautiful girl. Wenn man so zurück schaut, dann fällt mir zumindest auf, dass die Hitparadenlandschaft damals wesentlich vielfältiger und offener war als sie es heute ist: Schlager, Disco, Rap, Rock, Hard Rock - alles hatte seine Berechtigung. So war es auch in Ilja Richter´s "Disco", in der ja auch nicht nur typische Discomusik vorgestellt wurde. Sogar Motörhead waren dort zu Gast! Heute ist irgendwie alles gleich und austauschbar geworden, Stilunterschiede der einzelnen Interpreten sind kaum noch auszumachen, alles funktioniert nach Schema F. Ich finde das nicht nur schade, sondern auch ziemlich langweilig. Da war es damals doch wesentlich interessanter. Die 1970er und 1980er Jahre waren eh nicht nur von der Musikbandbreite die besten Zeiten, die wir je hatten. Danach ging´s eigentlich kontinuierlich nur noch abwärts.

Dem Stimmen eigentlich alle zu....trotzdem reagiert die Musikindustrie kaum darauf. Ist schon sehr seltsam. Weil es scheinbar schwierig geworden ist Geld zu machen.....allerdings wuerde die Qualität der Produktionen passen , waere mehr Fantasie involviert dann könnte man auch wieder Geld damit machen. Es fehlt definitiv an Mut und Vision in den Schlüssel Positionen. Wir muessen Uebernehmen!:) Du und Ich, Marc Schmidt! Sonst macht es ja keiner.

Ich find's total egal. Die Zeit, wo die Charts für mich gut waren, war in der Zeit meiner jungen und Jugendjahren, wo ich sie einige Jahre lang jede Woche akribisch verfolgt habe und dadurch auch die meisten Titel kannte. Charts bilden aber nie die Gesamtheit der aktuell vorhandenen Musik ab, sonder eben nur das, was der Masse gefällt. Heutzutage gibt es 100x mehr verschiedene Genres als in den 80ern, nur finden davon nur ein paar wenige in den Charts statt. Da gibt es Szenen, wo gewisse Songs gefeiert werden, aber die finden im Mainstream 0 statt. Es stimmt schon, dass die Mainstream und Radio Musik seit dem Jahr 2000 oder seit dem Social Media Age immer gleichförmiger geworden ist. Aber man sollte auch nicht das hören, was andere sagen, dass es angeblich gut ist, weil es in den Charts landet oder ständig im Radio gedudelt wird. ;) Für die 1980er und fürhere Jahrzehnte als auch die ersten Jahre der 1990er helfen die Charts natürlich schon, die damaligen großen Hits rauszufiltern. Allerdings gab es viel mehr Musik. Man braucht nur mal die Single Charts des Jahres 1980 der großen Musikbewertungsseite Rateyourmusic aufrufen. Da haben wir New Wave und Post-Punk gleich zu Beginn. Art Pop und Gothic Rock, Jangle Pop und Heavy Metal. Davon gab es bei den großen Jahreshits sehr wenig bis gar nichts. Ich möchte jetzt gar nicht sagen, welche Jahrescharts besser sind, weil die von RYM den offiziellen DSC Jahrescharts kaum gleichen.

Katja finished 2nd behind Ireland's Johnny Logan, who performed Shay Healy's *What's another year" -- see 8:48). The German song was penned by Ralph Siegel and Bernd Meinunger, who also wrote the 1982 German winner (Nicole with "Ein bißchen Frieden"). 😎😎 8:12 Danish singer Gitte Hænning recorded a German version ("Freu dich bloß nicht zu früh" -- see 13:01), and in 1982 one in her native Danish; "Ta' det grin af dit fjæs". 🙂 9:30 Italian entry to the 1980 ESC. Regarding SHEILA Spacer , do we know if 12" singles were taken into account in the German chart ? by then Carrere used to produce many 12" singles ...It probably explains the rather low placing of Spacer in the UK too...Those were the days !

Thanks for the effort. 1980 had been a really devastating year in German Charts. What a mediocre stuff, tired and uninspired. But maybe one reason for the (short) rise of Neue Deutsche Welle some 1-2 years later? And: The real 80s pop music heaven started then and every week the Formula One TV Show was full to the hilt with great songs and music.

Some really Cool Songs Save our Faces! 😄👍Some are Embarrassing! But I think in majority there was an Higher Standart in Melodic Quality and Diversity than today. Germany was a Big and Very important Market for Music Back then. USA, Uk, Netherlands, Germany, Japan were the most important Markets. Please remind, vid contents successful songs in the West German Top 100 only! So there were very seldom East German hits. Exceptions as far as i know: 12:07 (everything) + 24:19 ONLY composition and lyrics, "Karat" obviously didn't get into the Top 100. 🙂

I remember that the music of the eighties was bad, but the truth is, it was even worse. .. Truck stop, Freddy Quinn ( Vollkommen hüftsteif) , Gottschalk, The Teens, Peter Alexander etc. Just a few good Artists. Zappa, Genesis, Pink Floyd, some good Black Music acts etc
