Beim Song "Save the last dance for me" von The Cats habe ich ein Jahr später - im September 1978 - meiner ersten großen Liebe das erste Küsschen gegeben! Tolle Erinnerungen - danke dafür! Tolle Arbeit von dir!

Thanks for the memories Frances. This was around the time I became interested in pop music as a 14 year old growing up in Western Canada. RIP to those performers who are sadly no longer with us.

Thank you Francis for this fantastic video! There was so much variety in the charts back then. Nowadays people tend to forget how common it was at the time for German artists to release German versions of popular English songs. Thanks to your video, I re-discovered 'Cocaine' by J.J. Cale, a song I had completely forgotten about. 😎

Thanks a lot, you covered up another hole in the charts history. As for me, I've watched this set carefully with guilty pleasure and then came 15:19 JMJ.....plus there were 3 extracts from "Rumours" so I cannot complain :)

Well, but we also had Hannes Wader and Reinhard May...but the Singles Charts do not reflect the whole music culture. Album charts looked different...

Awesome, I really hope you do one for the Netherlands like this, from any top 40 of an entire year, 1990 is cool, or any year from the late 70ties, all 80ties or all 90ties.

5:26 German entry to the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). The clip is from the live broadcast of the contest. 😎 7:33 UK entry to the 1977 ESC. They finished in 2nd place (the winner was France's entry -- which you can see/hear at 9:25). 🙂 9:47 Swiss entry to the 1977 ESC.

Thank you Vielen Dank for compiling all these historic clips. I lived in Germany on/off for 3 years, and found German pop music very entertaining (funny!). It's not a very musical language, and their grasp of English is similarly simplistic when it comes to pop songs. Ha Ha Ha . . .

One of the best things about living in South Africa in the 1970s was the wide variety of pop music from around the world. Many European acts enjoyed success in the sunny republic: Amanda Lear, Michael Holm, Peter Maffay ("You" is an absolute classic!), Century, Peter Sue & Marc, Luv, La Bionda, Baccara, and Champagne (who couldn't use the name for legal reasons and were called "Bubbley"). And we even had an English version of Pierre Groscolas "Lady Lay" in the Top 5! In the 80s, Modern Talking, Alphaville and Silver Pozzoli topped our charts and Sandra sold more records than Madonna!

As an American, I was already familiar with the Bellamy Brothers' song "Highway 2-18" as an album track on the "Let Your Love Flow" album. But I was completely unfamiliar with "Crossfire." And R.I.P. Brad Delp (lead singer of Boston for many years).

Interesting and quite surprising. In 1977 I was 12 years old and from what I remembered, most music at that time was various degrees and combinations of funk, soul and early disco with tons of strings (like Baccara and Silver Convention) - all genres that I honestly don't like, but I was surprised to be reminded, that there were actually many other (and in my opinion better) songs as well, like ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Sailor, Bonnie Tyler, Rubettes, Sweet, Bay City Rollers (yeah, it's kitsch, but some of their songs were actually pretty good), Jen-Michel Jarre, Abba, Showaddywaddy, Eagles, Chicago.
