@@utlot9785 I would like to hear more of your story. Were there parties everywhere or was the world more innocent? And which artist was the most heard on the radio at that time?
@utlot9785 Жыл бұрын
@@mariol2116 The party scene seemed to come with the anti-war movement, and drug scene, such as what was seen at Woodstock. In the early 60s that was not the case. It definitely was a time of innocence. The artists began to change from Johnny Rivers, Elvis, and Beach Boys, to the types of the British Invasion in 64.

I was 8 when the Beatles came. My parents let me stay up & watch them on the Ed Sullivan show. Usually I was in bed by then. IDK why they did, but I’m grateful to this day that they did. Fantastic memory!

My older brother told me just about the same story. He was 8 years old and our parents let him stay up just to watch them. He says he remembers staring at the TV, and when they came on, that was it for him. He has had his own bands and still plays his guitar because of that night.

Fantastic array of songs, genres, solo artists and groups! The UK went Fab Four crazy in the previous year, but it did not explode in the U.S. until Feb. 1964 when they came on The Ed Sullivan Show that Sunday night. The surf craze, the car craze, the rockabilly (Ricky Nelson), the strong American groups with The Four Seasons, Jan & Dean, and The Beach Boys, plus the amazing Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney, the girl singers/groups with Lesley Gore, Mary Wells, The Supremes, The Dixie Cups and The Shangri-Las, the other great British groups (Herman's Hermits, The Dave Clark Five, Chad Stuart & Jeremy Clyde, Peter & Gordon, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Kinks, The Animals, etc.), and in Dec. 1964, a shocking #1 hit from a TV Western star, Lorne Greene ("Bonanza") talking about "Ringo" all contributed to a boisterous, memorable, incredible, fun year in pop music that set the scene over the next 5 years. Elvis has all but disappeared, with only a #29 title hit from his movie, "Viva Las Vegas" released in April, but recorded in July 1963

1964 was a VERY good year. It's funny, suddenly there's the Rolling Stones, so different from everything that came before. British Invasion, The Zombies, The Kinks, The Animals, Dave Clark Five, and of course The Beatles. There was just nothing like it and never will be again. Everything changed, you can clearly see it here, with the exception of Surf and Hot Rod music, US music was dying.
@charmainejames95393 жыл бұрын
US music wasn’t dying in 1964, it’s when the “Motown Sound” took off with international hits ! The Supremes with “Where Did Our Go”, Mary Wells with “My Guy “, The Temptations with “”My Girl “, The Four Tops with “Ask The Lonely “ to name some examples. While there was a British Invasion in the USA in 1964, there was also an American Invasion musically in the UK in ‘64!
