3-23-2022. My new 13” Frank B Stiletto. It’s a automatic switch blade. It has a 6” polished stainless blade. The blade is a bayonet style. It’s 13” total length. Also stainless bolsters. Brass pins brass liners. And pearl handles. Made by Frank B in Italy. Bought on March 21-2022. $107.95 .

Like the look of the knife overall, however I do NOT like having to manipulate the bolster to unlock and close the blade… It looks cheap and the blade has slack at the weak point which could/will break if very much pressure is applied …

Could I get an update on this knife? Is it still good quality after 8 months? I have heard stories that Frank B knives don't last long because the parts come loose after opening and closing a lot.

I don’t know about that . I’m a collector and don’t use it daily. If you want a daily use I suggest getting a cheap switch blade knife or a regular pocket knife. Maybe you could check with the seller or manufacturer. I would take others opinion with a grain of salt. Not knowing what they put the knife through. Anything will wear out with a lot of use and time. Hope this helps.thanks for the question.

The switchblade was not made to be a fighting knife, a utility knife or a food prep knife either. They were simply made to be art and conversation pieces which is why the blade steel isn't even hardened. Cool letter openers.

Asking cause I don't know. I just got a Frank B 9" stiletto with abalone scales. The knife is great, the fit of the scales is atrocious. They are blocky and stand above the front and rear bolsters. When I was a kid, I used to " import" switchblades from Mexico and Italy. The Mexican knives weren't that great, but the handles on all of them fit better and sleaker than the Frank B I took delivery of. Is this typical today?? I contacted the seller, no response.

Yes mine seems to be the same . I think it’s due to the shell it’s made of. But I think it’s still a good quality knife.

The scales are left thick at the bolster on purpose due to the location of the pin.You are correct,it looks bad but is necessary or the pin could cause the scale to crack if it was tapered

Got a question, My Frank B seems to get stuck when it fires open, I noticed some lint that was stuck in it, But I took it out and there is none visible anymore, But it’s still stuck, any suggestions on how to fix it? It might be not-visible lint in there somewhere

Maybe compressed air and then a drop or two of 3-1 oil?

Get some rem oil spray cleaner and lubricant for guns spray the joint all around there and work the blade back and forth. After its clean get some quick release lube its my favorite for knives and put a few drops on it. They make other lubricants too.

luckily I got one with a horn handle but it has a flat ground blade and not a bayonet blade but I love that one wanna sell it??

the flat grind ones are good for actually using because they can be easily sharpened but the bayonets have a very steep grind that is to hard to sharpen for practical use.

There the same they swing from the side of the handle.stiletto is a brand name. Unless it’s out the front.

stiletto means a long thin blade resembling a spike more than a knife, whether fixed or folding, the earliest ones were always fixed blades say in 15-1600s, they werent sharp on sides, they were only for stabbing, they had a thin handle and small guard. They descended from the misericorde, a long thin stabbing spike/dagger used to stab in between plates of armor in the days of knights in armor, circa 14-1500s. Both types were usually 12-13 inches long total. They usually had diamond or triangle blade grinds. Folding knives that when open resemble a stiletto dagger are called that whether autos or manual and regardless of length.

Have you ever made a switchblade knife . ??? I have ..If you have then you would not say this knife looks to be a good build. There is a video on KZbin of frank B hammering these out . These are machine made kits . Pins hammered together by who knows who. The release nub sits inside the recessed hole in the blade does not go through the blade and will wear in a year or 2 and will not stay closed. Don’t waste your money on this one it is junk . I got one here now . Won’t stay closed anymore.. If you get one. Get one where the release pin goes all the way through the blade.

I have many Frank Beltrame made in Maniago (Italy), since 30 years. They are not expensive (80 - 100 $ range) and have a good quality for the money. Never had a problem. I prefer the single edge blade (not the so called " bayonet type").

What you were calling "brass inlays" true name is "Liners" wether they are made from brass , nickel silver, stainless steel etc.. They are not inlays as you were referring to them.

The cheap Chinese knock-offs can't compare with a real Italian made Stiletto. Especially on the bigger ones over 8 inches, the Chinese spring is about half as strong and the opening action is profoundly different.
