I live in a country with a significant influence of Italian immigration, and I have formed the idea that the "stiletto" was wielded with the free hand behind only in duels subject to a "codice d'onore" in which they sought to achieve a "first blood" with shallow cuts and stab wounds. That fencing position would be suicidal in a criminal environment. Other than that, its design makes it very attractive and elegant, good for a quick defensive move, but bad for a prolonged engagement. Very interesting your reminder of this weapon and its technique of use.

Hi Tommy - great content 👌🏻 have you recorded a video on how to defend against the same weapon, if confronted by 1 or more assailants with a knife, if they hold it out in this style? In my old jujitsu training we were taught, if possible to immediately reach for any object or implement to use as a counter weapon, and failing that to try to grab a jacket / curtain / towel to wrap around your arm to use as a ‘shield’ to absorb their first attack, while you close the gap in order to counter.

I am fella. These knives are legal to own, not carry. They are gravity operated not spring. For some reason in the opening I say spring! Must have been a long day. This knife opens by force of the thumb (gravity) on a metal ridge that pokes out of the handle. You have to push it round but it moves fast, rather than a button push (spring) like a traditional US stiletto, so readily available!

It always helps to have a knife made of quality steel like AUS8a or 440c especially if you're planning to slash and not just thrust because some steel will scratch but cuts very poorly especially if the opponent is wear denim or leather or heavy cotton jacket 🧥 or something of that type. 😊
@TheRealRomansThirteen5 ай бұрын
Yeah the first thing I see from a knife fighting perspective is the straight lunge under the intercostal spaces 344556 of the ribs or just under the rib cage to the bottom of the heart targeting the eye or the airway you always want to slash out but the Stiletto just became king in my book for the civilian dagger because of the subclavian stab to the heart and exiting taking out the artery. The last technique is always the best with Tommy Moore because not only do you have the concealment you have the cut to the eye vertically followed by the natural downward thrust into the targets left side where the heart is severing the aorta stopping the fight severing the artery too. Instant kill. I really like this vertical slash Libra knife fighting has a little wrist flick that goes horizontal using the tip of the blade and the movement of the wrist. The last technique makes the most sense because it's counter-ambush it's offensive fighting. I understand the literature going back in the day and they showed individuals fencing off in a duel. Maybe that was common practice back then but they say now those techniques will get you killed. It's fascinating that the arm goes behind the back. The reason being because you're the arteries inside of the forearm. Perhaps with systema movements your pivoting the hips to move the chest out of the way. I've seen something very similar to this from Adam Celadin in the Czech Republic using batons. He tends to throw his arm behind his back for a full swing. And it appears to offer more momentum. So is it for evasion is it for defense or is it to increase momentum? These videos are so comprehensive thank you so much.

@jeffreybarton12972 жыл бұрын
Yes. I've got a 6 inch Cold Steel T-lite. Very much a stiletto. Looks very cool, BUT, I never carry it. I opt for the Cold Steel Recon 1, which slices like a razor, can also stab, and is almost impossible to break. Also opens like a dream, and closes just as quick, with a pretty much unbreakable lock.

What happens if you hit a rib? Does your hand slide into the blade or does the knife find its way in regardless?
@Hodgepodge02 Жыл бұрын
The blade will go through the path of least resistance. If your grip is decent, it will go above or below the rib and slash about in the chest cavity of whatever bastard your offing. Cheers.

Watch CCTV videos of actual knife attacks. Most of the time the attacker will grab the victim with the "off hand" (also called the leveraging arm) Then the blade is thrust like a sewing machine. Fast and repeatedly. By grabbing the victim with the other hand, the range is perfect, and the victim cannot run away.
@jeffreybarton12972 жыл бұрын
The sewing machine is very difficult to defend against, too. Once the first couple of stabs happen the victim quickly loses the will to do anything but shout.
Hopefully we will never have to use our knife or firearm to defend ourselves, but if you do you better know what to say and not to say when you call 911. Remember this is a recorded conversation and in my opinion the only thing you want to say is “I feared for my life and had to defend myself.”Have 911 bring the police and two ambulances, One for the assailant and one for yourself. Talk to no one except for your attorney. Just my opinion for what it’s worth. I recently purchased the 5700SBK Auto Presidio II And let me tell you, this is one knife worthy of carrying. Another word of advice, avoid cheap TV and flea market knives because they will close up on your hand and that’s not a good thing. Stay safe

Avoid hitting major arteries. That's when blood gets all over the knife making it slippery. It's when most stabbers end up injuring themselves with their own blade.
