How wonderful to watch this. I am ever-honored to be related to this talented man (His sister, Josephine, who he mentions in his speech was my great grandmother). I absolutely love his advice, "Don't follow trends, start trends!" :-)

What a beautiful ceremony. Mr. Capra directed my favorite movie ever, "It's a Wonderful Life". I met Karolyn Grimes (Zuzu Bailey) in 2006 in Seneca Falls, New York. She was beautiful and charming. She spoke very highly of Mr. Capra and Mr. Stewart.

Outstanding! I wrote down the key points of his speech for anyone who is interested. THE ART OF FRANK CAPRA is based on: “The Love of People” The 2 Ideals of “The Love of People” 1. The Freedom of Each Individual 2. The Equal Importance of Each Individual Words of Advice: • “Don’t Follow Trends, Start Trends” • “Don’t Compromise, Believe In Yourself Because Only The Valiant Can Create” • “Only The Daring Should Make Films” • “Only the Morally Courageous are Worthy of Speaking to Their Fellow Man for 2 Hours Into the Dark”

A very touching, deeply moving speech. A great man and a great artist, who always understood the human soul in all its aspects, in all its shades. His films are eternal on account of that, and on account of his superb command of the medium.

Oh My God. This Grandmaster of cinema ist STILL at it! I'm not an american, but he gets me crying just recalling his first sight of the statue of liberty and his fathers words. It's a scene done so often in movies - but here's the real thing. And it's moving to realize that it's STILL the real deal. Thank You, Frank Capra

Frank Capra, through his films, his life, and this speech, embodied everything it means to be an American: someone who came from humble origins, but who had the dream, the drive, and the ambition, and the honor, to do what was needed, in a free society where he would be able to do it. Legend.

Capra is acknowledged by the film industry to have been one of the greatest directors of the 1930's and 1940's, with a series of memorable films including Mr.Smith Goes To Washington, It Happened One Night, Lost Horizon and It's A Wonderful Life. Even his last film, the re-make of Lady For A Day entitled Pocketful Of Miracles with Bette Davis and Glenn Ford was charming and entertaining. Had his health not intervened, Capra would have presumably made additional films into the 60's.

Shame though, that his speech was as sincere a a contrite politician. Have you read Frankly. The Un-masking of Frank Capra by Joe McBride? A very different picture emerges of this supposed " man of the people".

It was a great speech, filled with a love of country, perhaps exemplified by what only an immigrant could feel. Capra praised his stars, great cameramen like Joseph Walker and editors like William Hornbeck. My only disappointment with the speech was his not mentioning Harry Cohn, the man who gave him his chance to make films the way HE wanted to make them. Yeah, I know, Cohn deserved his title of "His Crudeness." And, the two men had a falling out in 1939 with Capra counting the days when he could "escape" from Columbia Pictures. But without Cohn giving him a shot and giving him artistic freedom, Capra might have never won three directing Oscars and two Best Pictures. Again, great speech, but also a little disappointing, too.
